A 40-year-old masseur has been banned from giving massages after a woman was allegedly assaulted at a Canberra massage business over the weekend.

Key points:

  • Bochau Wang has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman while giving her a massage at a Canberra business
  • Mr Wang was arrested on Sunday, telling ACT Policing he did nothing wrong
  • He has been banned from practising as a masseur but has been permitted to work in the business in administration

Bochau Wang faced the ACT Magistrates Court today, charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent, and another charge of an act of indecency without consent.

Documents tendered to the court said Mr Wang was working at the business in Belconnen on Saturday when a female client arrived for a massage.

The client alleges a female massage therapist at the business normally saw her.

She was told that particular masseuse was unavailable, but Mr Wang would see her instead.

Court documents said Mr Wang told the client to "relax yourself" before he began the one-hour massage session.

Towards the end of the massage, the client alleges she could hear other staff members talking while they left the business for the day.

She also heard the roller door lowered at the front of the store, leaving her and Mr Wang alone.

It's then alleged Mr Wang sexually assaulted her.

The alleged victim said she froze and didn't know what to do, before telling Mr Wang: "I have to go".

She paid for the massage and then called her husband, who urged her to contact police.

After his arrest on Sunday, Mr Wang told ACT police the massage was normal, and he did nothing wrong.

In court, he was banned from practising as a masseur but was permitted to work at the business in an administration capacity.

Mr Wang was also told he wasn't allowed to be in the business without the presence of another staff member.

He will return to court next week.
