A good oil blend for dandruff?

Its that time of year again ...
I usually cut my hair short, but it is curly and slightly oily.
Tend to use TAR based Dandruff shampoo from Boots to get rid of my dandruff - but hate the smell and it takes a few weeks to clear.

The textbooks recommend:
Lemon grass, White Thyme, Patochuoli and Rosemary

Can I just add these to the Tar Boots shampoo.

Any other (better) suggestions?

Sometimes in some shampoos essential oils do not blend or they can ruin a shampoo, so I heard. If you are going to make a mixture just make a small amount enough for you to wash once

I was also taught tea tree, cedarwood, sage, lavender, and ylang ylang were good for dandruff plus jojoba and evening primrose oil.

You could make a blend of essential oils with these carrier oils, massage into scalp and leave on for an hour or two then wash it off as normal with the shampoo you already use. Might help it go quicker.

You could also add the essential oils to some water and use as a final rinse to help mask the smell of the shampoo.

I do like the sound and balance of:
White Thyme, Lemon-grass, lavender and Ylang Ylang

I was really happy with that blend in 10ml jojoba oil - used half before the shower and left for an hour and the other half as final rinse.

Back to the very valid point naturalhon made:

Chrissie Wildwood writes in her Bloomsbury Encyclopaedia:

"Not all essential oils are stable in [neutral PH] soaps or detergent
these include: cedarwood, cypress, juniper, lemon, lime, mandarin, orange, pine and Ylang Ylang.
Oils which ARE STABLE include: Bergamont FCF, Chamomile, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Lavender, Neroli, Patchouli, Petitgrain, Rosemary, sandalwood and Tea Tree"

... So I'll try a drop of each in 20ml of my Boots shampoo:
Lavender, Tea Tree, Rosemary & Geranium -
and will keep you updates
