AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — The Amarillo City Council formally put an end to its attempt to crack down on illegal activity at massage businesses on Tuesday.
The ordinance was passed last October with virtually no pushback, but in February, when the city announced surprise inspections would begin in March, the backlash was swift and vocal.

The city quickly backtracked after hearing complaints from business owners and licensed massage therapists, who said parts of the ordinance made it impossible for them to do business. Others were upset that their professional input was not sought when the ordinance was crafted.
The city council unanimously repealed the ordinance.
They recommended meeting with local massage therapists in hopes of drafting a new policy that exempts them and more specifically targets the illegal, sexually oriented parlors.
