White Birch is from the Silver birch tree - its a diuretic, so good for cellulite oedema and elimination thus is helpful for rheumatism and arthritis. For skin it is good for dermatitis, eczema, boils and ulcers.
Cajeput for eczema and psoriasis: also relieves aches and pains i.e. sciatica, lumbago arthritis and rheumatism. Tonic for the nervous system, stimulant, alleviates fatigue. Excellent for catarrh, sore throats. Precaution: possible skin irritant.
There are two types of bay, the Laurel, which we use as bay leaves - used to crown champions in Ancient Greece and confered the gift of prophecyat Delphi. Said to stimulate the appetite, and is a good nerve tonic. Its also a respiratory antiseptic. Good for people who lack energy and confidence. Safe generally though can cause skin sensitisation is use over a long period (3 weeks plus).
The other bay is the West Indian used as a hair tonic -
Elemi good for mature skin. Antiseptic and helps healing. Like frankincense in many ways as said before - so good for chest infections. The name comes from the Arabic phrase meaning above and below - so helps harmonise mind body and spirit. Good for meditation. Completely safe oil, non toxic, non-irritant and non sensitising.
Fir (abies alba) alleviates muscular aches and pains due to rheumatism or arthritis. Also good for stress. Protects and strengthens the auric and physical bodies, its both uplifting and grounding. Good for the third eye and crown chakras. Non toxic, non irritant and non sensitising. Contraindications for bronchial asthma and whooping cough as it increases bronchial spasms.
Spikenard - warming and drying says Dioscorides, good for nausea, flatulenceindigestion, menstrual problems inflammations and conjunctivitis. Sedative. Non toxic, non irritant, and non sensitising.
Vetivert - good for insomnia, grounding, good for oily skin and acne. Also an immuno-stimulant. Known as the 'Oil of tranquility' in India and its deeply relaxing. Good for healing traumas, shock.
