Are there any free chat rooms that aren't completely dead?

I'm a longtime 'chatter' on the Internet. I've had AOL since 1997 and remember how popular its chat rooms use to be. There use to be something called CAT (Community Action Team) that would go around and kick people from chat rooms for breaking any TOS rules. I read something where the CAT is no more because they sued AOL for being required to work longer hours and do the same thing paid AOL staff do, but for free.

Is there some kind of chat service now in 2011 with that same sort of environment? I'm now an adult in my early 30s, mind you. I don't need anything like AOL has/had in terms of the "AOL Channels", just the chat rooms that are more or less spam free by means of being moderated.
For adult rooms try Paltalk.
There's also chat on Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Messenger and even on Google Talk.

I've tried PalTalk. I hate it. The rules are worse than...well, anal...I think. Yahoo! Chat is filled with spam and I've had my password compromised a few times from it. I don't trust Windows Live Messenger because Microsoft has closed my account once or twice because it claimed I was sending out spam messages when I wasn't, so I changed my password numerous times.

I haven't tried GoogleTalk chat though. I didn't know chatrooms existed there. I'll update on what I think of them.
