Aroma Stone

Has anybody had any experience with the electric Aroma Stone vaporiser? My daughter bought one for me as a Christmas present.

I am used to using a traditional oil burner with a tea light candle. This gives a very strong scent, even when mixed with water.

I have tried using the Aroma Stone several times now both with a very small quantity of water (about 10ml) with several drops of oil, and with undiluted oil. The smell is barely noticeable, even when the Aroma Stone has been on for an hour or more. Even then, it is just about warm to the touch.

The manufacturers and the Internet supplier advise the product is probably not faulty, I have been told I can return it to the manufacturer (at my own expense) who will replace it if it is found to be faulty. It would appear that the suppliier will only replace it if I return it (at my own expense) in the original packaging (which I don't have). I am very disappointed with the performance of the Aroma Stone. Has anybody successfully used one? Any tips would be appreciated!

I had a Tisserand once, whch was bought for me, that hardly got warm either. They exchanged it for me..but made it no difference...I doubt they get warm enough to melt a snowflake , although have to say the tisserand lavender essential oil that came with it is the most wonderful lavender essence I have ever smelled.

I don't like the dry aroma stone burners much as have always found that, particularly with citrus oils, they give off a burnt smell after quite a short time - much prefer a candle burner.

Hi Keith!

I was extolling the virtues of my aromastone only today to a friend interested in buying one!

It is true they have a far far gentler heat than a candle oil burner, but mine will still vapourise the water and therefore the aroma, it just takes much longer.

For example, I fill mine to the top with water and add the oil, usually a 2 drop blend, and it will take about an afternoon to disperse. This suits me well, it is more of a gentle background scent to a room and I don't have to worry about it keep drying out and topping up the water which I usually forget with a regular burner! I find I get that burnt smell more with the candle burner, if you never let the aroma stone dry out it is far more easy to clean.

So I would say it depends on your desired effect, if you want an intense smell quickly, the candle burner is better. But if you want a longer term more ambient smell that you can more easily forget about and let brew, the aromastone is ideal!

Many thanks for the helpful replies, particularly from Pure-Ki. I suppose I am looking for the instant fix! I will give it a go. Both the supplier and the manufacturer have advised me that the Aroma Stone is not designed to heat water, and have suggested using either pure oil, or water 'just off the boil'. I will give your suggestion a go!

I use an aroma stone as I had a very nasty experience with tea lights in a burner.
I was giving a talk to a WI group and had set the room up in a semi circle of chairs, a table with various oils and smelling sticks - each on a dish and colour coded. I had also placed on the radiators around the room bits of cottonwool with Lavender oil on. I had music quietly playing on a cd in the background and various cushions & footstools for people to use, as well as a couch for a demonstration. The Oil burner was on a seperate table away from everything else. I began my talk by welcoming people and saying that if people felt the need to nod off I would not be offended, everyone settled down, as I continued to talk, there was an almighty sound of spitting as the flame from the tealight went right accross the top of the candle up the side of the pot to the oil on the top of the water and also caught fire. The pot shattered.
I have never used a tea light since.
