Aromatherapist

I am a new member to Healty Pages, and have so far found this site to be very useful. I would like to become an aromatherpist, but would first like to find out what would be my potential yearly earning from this profession if i were to set up my own practice. I live in London - can anyone provide details of the best training colleges in this subject.

Can anyone help me on this?

Hi Tinkys - I have only just joined too, and think this is a fantastic forum. Much the best aromatherapy forum I have come across.

I am a part-time student at Tisserand Institute, which unfortunately is shutting down its diploma course to focus on post-graduate courses. I have heard that Gabriel Mojay's course at Regents Park College is very good - you can study there part-time. I am afraid I can't answer your question on earnings - but what I would say is that I think it would be tough to work as a massage therapist full-time. It is very tiring - but I think some do.

To be an aromatherapist, you have to have a massage and anatomy and physiology qualification. Some aromatherapy courses integrate these so you can do them all at once.

As for earning potential, as Aromabella says, it would be quite tiring to do this full time. It also takes a long time to build up a regular clientele and whilst you may be busy some of the time, there are also very quiet times.

You may be better off considering training in other modalities as well, to offer more of a choice of treatments to potential clients.

I think it is fair to say that most of us therapists are not in it for the money, and many are lucky enough to have a partner for financial support, or continue with other employment and work as a therapist part time.
