Aromatherapy and depression

Do you have any suggestions for reading about aromatherapy and depression? I'm doing a project and looking for as much information as possible - books, articles, studies, etc.

Valerie Ann Wormwood's The Fragrant Mind is a very good book that explains how aromatherapy affects the emotions.

I strongly recommend it too! What a fantastic book!

Do a general search on the web as well, try "Aromatherapy + Depression/mood desorders", or "essential oils + ...". go to "http://www.findarticles.com/", very very helpful....

I've got lots of books on aromatherapy, I'll have a look for you this evening and will get back to you with further titles.

Hi.

Bergamot. Absolutely fantastic and always relieves depression in my clients. Never fails.

If you blend it with Petitgrain and Orange (all from the same family) then the effects are enhanced, as are all oils when blended.

Depends on the root cause though:

ie. Female depression (PMT, Post Natal, Menopause) then Rose Otto is wonderful as is Neroli (or blended). Clary Sage is also good for depression though use sparingly!

How is the depression? Is their anxiety involved? Anger? Negative attitude? Lethargy? Fatigue? etc etc....take all that into account and use three oils.

Any of the citrus oils help (being zesty, fruity and full of zing!)

But have to say, always, always use Bergamot when I need it for depression.

I think the best book by far is 'Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit' Gabriel Mojay. Fantastic.
