Aromatherapy Facials

Hi all

Was just wondering if any aromatherapists offered facials and facial massage as part of their services? I would like to offer this but not sure if I would need to do another course in facials or if the fact I have qualification in Aromatherapy would be enough? For those that do, what products do you use? Do you still select and blend per client or use base products from your supplier? I buy from Quinessence so was thinking of using their facial range but adding oils suited to particular client.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Tracey,
yes I was taught how to do a facial massage in my aromatherapy course and sometimes include it.

as for facials, I did a separate one day holistic facial course where you are shown how to double cleanse, tone, moisturise and give a face, neck and shoulder massage.

I would recommend seeking out a holistic facial course to offer this service.

How do you do this holistic facial. Can aromatherapy facials be done at home by oneself? or is it important to get it done by a professional??

yes you could easily do this at home and its worth setting aside 20 mins a week to do this.
first cleanse - massage cleanser over face starting at neck work up to jawline, then chin, to cheeks, pay particular attention around the nostrils and up the nose, gently around eye sockets and finish at forehead. (all in small circular movements)
tone - apply cotton pads soaked in toner to neck in upward strokes, then outward stroke from chin, then cheeks, then up nose, gently around eyes, then again outward on forehead.
second cleanse - as in first cleanse but spend longer getting into all the nooks and crannies.
tone - as above.
exfoliate - small circular movements. (if using, I don't). use hot flannels to remove.
tone - as above
mask - use brush to apply thin layer. apply pads to eyes soaked in hydrosol or eyebright lotion or slices of cucumber. (if using, I don't)
OR
apply aromatherapy oils to suit your mood and your skin type ina relaxing massage. (I do).
hot flannels or sponges to remove.
tone.
apply moisturiser - dot on and briefly massage in.

its much nicer getting someone else to do it for you!

Thanks Daisy, But I know the steps for a facial.

What I'd like to know is which oils do you use in the steps? Do you mix them in some lotion or scrub for the exfoliating and cleansing purpose?

I offer Holistic facials which can be incorporated into a full body massage, can include a cleanse, tone, mask or not and also can include essentail oils or not it is up to the client - the only difference to daisychain is that if I use essential oils I do not remove them after the facial massage, I use them as the moisturiser for full benefit -

Essential oils in cleansers and scrubs tend to be for the frangrance rather than therapeutic reasons - they just aren't in contact with the skin for long enough to really be contributing to the results. The essential oils that are used in the mask/massage/moisturising part are in contact with the skin for longer and do contribute to the results. Plus if you are doing a cleanse under steam using the ozone on the steamer, it kills off the active ingredients anyway (if you steam the mask, the ozone should be switched off)
As for what essential oils to use for the mask/massage/moisturising, that depends on the skin contidion, not one oil suits all facials.
