Hi, i am thinking of doing the VTCT aromatherpy course, has anyone done this? if so how did you find it and what books ect did you need for the course?

Hiya

Just finishing the Level 3 Diploma which I think is what you mean. It was OK, maybe not as in depth as I'd have liked on the oils, plenty of case studies (30 tretments). No set books though - I bought the Julia Lawless book and the Jeanne Rose 375 Essential Oils and Hydrolats book. You can do a lot of research on Aromaweb too.

I've done a few VTCT Level 3 qualifications and they have been fine. I'm just coming to the end of my Aromatherapy one through a college or, in old money, night school!

I have enjoyed it, as have my case studies and the people I had to use to 'mop up' the oils I hadn't used, but one word of advice - my penultimate week tomorrow - DO NOT leave your case study write ups til the last minute!! You will think they only take a few minutes - WRONG!!!!! Get them written up as you do them. I'm mad - had this in mind the whole course, but, of course, get busy, clients, learning, assignments, case studies - time to write up - NO! Make time.

Anyway, gotta go - keep getting distracted by logging into Healthy Pages - great site - just one complaint - it's addictive!

and one more - too many exclamation marks and that's a complaint about me!

I too am coming to the end of my VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Aromatherapy.
Quite agree with doing all the write up's on the case studies as you go along. In my course - minium 6 clients - min 30 treatments. Any oils that have been missed off will be tested against by tutor. Did 2 Peer exams recently and have 3 more client exams then oral and written questions.
Books I purchased were Essential Oils by Julia Lawless and Holistic Guide to A & P by Tina Parsons plus a couple of others along the way.
Also had to buy substantial massage couch and large box with 30 oils in plus 9 carrier oils. Couch covers, towels and uniform etc. The money soon adds up.

Hiya

The college had a deal with Purple Flame for us to buy the oils and a travel kit from there, I think the cost was about £95. You don't just get the essential oils, but also measuring beaker, palm dish, and I think some carrier oils too. I had my own oils, and also a trade account with Purple Flame so I didn't pay as much.
