Hello vicki[sm=wave.gif]
Moo moo here....
in regards to your question....
there are differences between the two oils. especially chemically. Spanish majoram (Thymus mastichina) has a higher level of "Ketones" (a chemical) than Sweet majoram (Origanum majorana)you must be cautious as ketones can build up in the body and cause problems if you are not careful, Thay are generally more toxic. Spanish majoram has a much harsher aroma than sweet majoram does, too. Sweet majoram is usually much nicer (im my opinion!). I don't use Spanish majoram, only sweet.
Sweet majoram has little if no ketones, and is generally better overall, and
having cheked my book, Sweet majoram seems to be more beneficial than spanish. I will list the properties of both.

The book i have loked them both up in is called "essential oils in colour" and is by Rosemary Caddy. Her books are wonderful, and they really helped me get to grips with the chemicals, i would reccomend it if you are studying aromatherapy vicki!!!. Hope this helps. If you asked for sweet majoram, then thats what they should have sent!. It might be a good idea to send it back and get some sweet majoram, but it is up to you. As you can see Sweet majoram is much better and more suited to what you wanted it for in the first place....All good essential oils should have the botanical names on the bottle.
anyway vicki good luck with your studies and the oils
love and blessings
