No link. I was given word that the Owners are getting together to fight back against the by-laws and try to make things similar to Mississauga and Brampton by-laws. A serious issue is the doubling of fees for licencing.

Its a worthy fight to argue that body-rub attendants should have the same right to be nude as in Peel Region.

But its a tricky game. If pushed too far, the city could decide to throw in the towel and get out of the body-rub 'licencing game.' They don't have to licence any of them, and certainly not in the face of notorious reputations for prostitution. Toronto is trying to scale down the MP operations. Peel Region-like by-laws would have the opposite effect and may be the 'last straw' for Toronto.

I don't see the owners winning this fight at the municipal level. They'd have to get serious. The present laws are hypocritical in that prosititution in not illegal, but virtually every action surrounding it is. I don't think Parliament has the stomach to go backwards and declare it illegal, (unless that bloodless wacko gets into office).

It would take more money and time, but owners should pursue this at higher levels of government. Australia and New Zealand are similar societies, have more permissive sex laws, and the sky hasn't fallen on them.

The unpopular opinion would be it is a revenue grab. Your fees go up, my taxes don't go up as much. My taxes stay lower I have more money to hobby. It's trickle down theory but the bulk of your clients can't be all high rollers. They can only play with disposable income. If you run a good service oriented place you should be able to afford the extra license fee. It is tax deductible for you after all.

the massage/escort hobby needs a lobby, or an advocate similar to the gay comunity. when was the last time you heard about a bathhouse being raided? and we all know that those places are hundreds of times more dangerous than a rub and tug!

i'm so sick of hearing about above board places like IT being shut down, while bathhouses frequented by HIV posative dudes are beond reproach. the problem is who is going to stand up on tv and say there is nothing wrong with rub and tugs? we need an ambasador, or a pr firm.

I assume you mean Harper, but I have to point out that NDP type governments are also intensely moralistic and possibly even more sanctimonious that the Tories. Check out the laws under social democrat, feminist regimes like Sweden. All in all, we're best off with the Liberals. They may be crooks, but at least they're not idealists.
