Burnaby to crack down on suspect massage parlours

BURNABY(CKNW/AM980) -- The City of Burnaby intends to crack down on body rub salons.

The city plans to limit where the salons are located.

Mayor Derek Corrigan believes many of Burnaby's approximately 15 body rub parlours are fronts for prostitution.

Corrigan says the city wants to ensure they're not close to things like schools, daycares or people's homes.

He says Burnaby can't do anything about the operations that have already been approved.

However, Corrigan says the city fully intends to close the problem salons, and discourage new ones from locating anywhere council feels they shouldn't be.

I guess that Burnaby's mayor probably started his initiative late last year when I got caught in a sting at Accupointe. Although nothing came of it (personally), it does put a small question mark in both our heads.........................Be safe has more than just one meaning!!

Nothing really happened; however, the cops did take my drivers license for 15-20 min while they did a record search on me and the other pooner who was there at the same time. I guess they were looking for a reason to 'take you in' and that would have been embarassing!!!. Anyways, they came back in and said that although they did not catch us doing anything illegal persay, they know what goes on in 'these types of places'. The cops said they could easily make it hard on us if they wanted to. Also, they arrested one girl, forgot her name though, on an outstanding warrant for possession of stolen goods??? Anyways, I guess they had enough paper work with the one arrest and didn't want to create extra work on a frivilous arrest.

I did manage to stay after they left and had a very nice time with Lucy!!!!

They should close down the Parlours like the Vancouver police kicked the working girls out of the bars in mid 70's. Then when you have 4 or 5 'tracks' in the City you can deplete police resources chasing the girls from street to street. So instead of having it reasonably safe and self-regulated, you will have the ladies working on the corner and out of apartments through out the city. I don't think that the police should spend time tracking down criminals or keeping the streets safe, I think that they should spend more time chasing down consenting adults.

Back to reality. Massage parlours are a good deal for the people of Burnaby and surrounding areas. The benefits are:
1) no underaged girls (no owner is going to risk his license by having this go on)
2) safer for the girls = lower police and court cost from investigating sexual assults and other violent crimes
3) less eyesore by not having the woman work in your building or on your street (most people do not know that there 8 parlours from 3600 Hastings to 4800 Hastings, and that is because they keep a low profile

So when they want to complain about not having enough officers, we have a legitimate right to complain that they must have enough if the only thing they have to worry about is two people getting it on in private.

There are several on that stretch of Hastings and they are very discrete.

No harm, no foul, I always say.
