Camera does not connect in chat rooms?

I upgraded from yahoo messenger 8 to 11. With 8 I had no problems, but with 11, I only get "not connected" when trying to view a camera in a chat room, even-tho I know camera is broadcasting.
Camera set up works fine with people in my contact list, but again, in chat room only thing I get is "not connected" when trying to view a camera.
Have windows xp sp3
Lan connection is through an AT&T router (does same thing using a wireless connection.
Creative cam, that does work in messenger 8.
Direct X version 9
use firefox as default browser, and have same result when ie is default browser
Tried turning off anti virus (avg free) and windows firewall. Did individually and together with the same results.
Appreciate any help of suggestions you might have
