carrier oil compatability

Could anyone give me some pointers on compatability of carrier oils with each other - particularly
grapeseed
calendula
sweet almond
evening primrose
wheatgerm
jojoba
avocado
peach kernel
macademia

Any info or a point in the direction of where to find it would be gratefully received.

Hi Izzy,

I'm still not sure what you are asking for. Certain oils work well together because they help boost each other properties, others benefit particular skintypes or specific areas of the body. The book carrier oils for aromatherapy and massage by leonard price, gives a lot of info on each carrier oil, although I don't think it discusses compatability. As far as I am aware all oils are compatible, it just depends on what percentages you blend; for example, I wouldn't slap on 90% wheatgerm with 10% avocado.

The tutor seems a bit vague about her question setting but my understanding is that she wants which carriers go especially well together, in what proportions and what the blend is good for eg eczema/dry skin etc.

You seem to have an idea now of how you want to tackle the question, so I would suggest maybe categorising each oil and looking at it's properties; these could include:

Skin type
Texture
Weight
Smell
Cost
Vitamins

For example if you were making a facial blend for sensitive skin you would want a light, smooth oil, with little smell, you could afford for it to be more expensive (4ml Peach Kernal 1ml Evening Primrose)

A general full body blend for oily skin needs to be detoxifying, cheaper, smooth, not too thick or too light (10mls Grapeseed, 5mls Jojoba).

Hope my thoughts help a bit, I think once you start going, you will find a lot more blends that seem to go well together.
