Chemo and oils - advice please !

Can anyone advise me - a client of mine is pregnant and has breast cancer - poor love . She has had one chemo treatment so far , and she wants to know if she can use some Clarins massage oils safely with the chemo she is having ( she is 29 weeks pregnant, the oils state ok for this , one is a stretchmark oil )
Does aromatherapy combine ok with Chemotherapy ?

i was taught by ITEC and they say NO oils should be used in Pregnancy

Hmmm, and yet this is marketed as especially for stretchmarks in pregnancy - apparently doesn't say what oils are in it, maybe that means there are no essential oils there anyway, surely Clarins would have got this right ?!

And if the baby can withstand chemotherapy surely it can withstand some natural plant extracts ??

Ru,

Blend at 1 % for safety, I would use mandarin & neroli for her stretch marks.

These are very mild oils to use during pregnancy. The main thing is that your client is happy for you to treat her and feel safe with the oils used.

Plenty of water after treatments to air on the side of caution.

I am quite surprised to hear your friend is having chemotherapy during pregnancy as the chemicals used in chemotherapy are probably far more toxic than essential oils.

There are safe aromatherapy oils to use during pregnancy - and the advice already given about Neroli and Mandarin is sound.

Hi,

I know nothing about aromatherapy but I volunteer at a hospice where aromatherpy is given to cancer patients. A little while ago I was talking to a lady who was having aromatherapy about Indian Head massage and oils and she said the aromatherpists had spoken to her consultant and that she only uses 1 drop of essential oils.

I would thus think that concent from the consultant would be important - and go on the advise (above) as to oils to usebut maybe make sure on the quantities of oil to use for aperson receiving chemo.

Apparently she is a very rare case, and there have only been a few others they can compare to , but have found that once the baby is fully formed the chemo does not have any obvious side effects - they are planning to induce at 35 weeks.
Amazing what the body can do to protect a baby .
She wants to use the oils at home so her hubby can massage her neck/shoulders - I will suggest that she dilutes them by 4 - that should make them v weak and ok to use.

Wow! i toowas not aware that you could recieve chemo whilstcarrying a baby? Will look into that as it is all new to me. Iuse essential oils throughout my clients treatment whn pregnant.I am extremely careful about the oils i use in the first 12 weeks sticking maily to citrus,frank,some tree oils and ylang ylang and using low doses.After this i use most oils and just steer clear of emmenagoggics and oils i would use in labour(maximum impact).
