The Coeur d’Alene Police Department said on Wednesday it is investigating multiple massage parlors based on allegations of illegal sexual activity and sex trafficking.
CDAPD says detectives are investigating after receiving reports of unwanted sexual touching. CDAPD says due to the nature of these crimes, prosecution is challenging and criminal charges were declined by local prosecutors.
However, the police department says due to the nature and volume of the allegations, the city revoked the business licenses at the following five parlors: Oriental Massage Spa, Red Sea Massage, Oriental Body Work, Asia Massage, and Chinese Massage.
Detectives say that based on reports, there are also concerns some of the employees of the massage parlors may be victims of sex trafficking.
"Different girls are moved to different businesses especially when they are identified as being a potential sex worker, they kind of disappear and move to different towns where these employers can move them to," said Sergeant Jared Reneau with CDAPD.
The police department says it is dedicated to criminally charging any business owner, employee, or patron involved in criminal sexual activity.
Reneau says people can keep themselves safe by looking for red flags at local massage parlors such as windows being fully covered or operating on a cash-only basis.
Anyone with information about sexual activity at any of the above-mentioned businesses is encouraged to contact Coeur d’Alene Police Detective Newbill at 208-292-5778.
