concerned about my hands

One day after I signed up for massage therapy school I have started having problems with my hands. They feel so numb, and they ache every now and then. I'm not sure whats up but I am really concerned. I start school on the 14th of this month. I hope this is not a long term thing. I don't believe that I have injured them in anyway. I have even been taking my rings off at night because I thought maybe that would be the culprit. This happened to me once before about 3 years ago, when I was breast feeding. I was holding myself and the baby awkwardly and I started having problems. My fingers got to the point that they would stick in a certain position and I would have to force them to move. When I stopped breastfeeding it cured itself though. Does anybody have any ideas what this could be? Or has this happened to you?

How tight is your neck or your pecs? Did you sleep wrong?

You need to get a therapeutic massage, and have them work only on your upper body. Discuss what is happening over the phone, don't just go to your local spa, find someone that will help you.

Do you see a chiropractor? You may also be pinching off a nerve somewhere.

What kind of bra do you wear? If you wear a ramassageplanetack anything it can add to the tightness, I had to stop wearing them after my car accident.

What fingers do you feel it? Are you dropping things? Is it in any part of your arms?

My neck is tight on a consistant basis. I was in a minor accident about three years ago and I have had problems with my neck every since. I found a massage therapist back then that relieved it, but I forgot her name and she is no longer emplyed at the place I have been to 2 others and they did not help.

I'm not seeing anyone really in this area, in the phonebook anyway that does it.

I do see one every now and again. As a matter of fact about a week before this happened I saw him. Hmmmm, I wonder if something got knocked out of place.

Hardly wear one LOL I hate the boogers.

My pinky and the other two finger beside it mostly. And its in the left hand more so then the right. The right hand seems to be numb and aching more in the hand itself instead of the fingers.

ok, good start. I know amta has a locator service where you can see what modalities the therapist works with, sometimes the telephone book is the worst place to find a good MT, and most MT's don't use it because of the calls we don't want. http://www.amtamassage.org "Find a massage therapist". The other massage organizations might have something similar as well, but I know they definitely have a breakdown as to what they do.

When you find a therapist, make sure they have experience with neck injuries and explain exactly what you are feeling... ask them to work on your Pecs, Upper Traps, Scalines, SCM, Levator Scapulae, Sub occipitals, and Splenus Capitus and Cervicis.

Even though "we" can't diagnose, this is most likely coming from your neck, as a result of the car accident... and then breast feeding just aggravated it because we go from having a nice size to Grande and heavy!!! Pulling down on our pecs and compressing the brachial plexus of nerves.

Ask your chiro if there is anyone that they refer out to for injury and rehab work.

try the chiro again and get a referral to another lmt.
