Hi Swilks
I don't mean to contradict Candie, but in my opinion the best Eucalyptus for children is Radiata as it is very gentle and can be used on very young children. Euc Citriodora is lemon scented and therefore can be an irritant it has a high proportion of a citronellal and very little 1,8 cineole which acts amongst other things as a mucolytic, whereas Euc Radiata is high in 1,8 cineole and will therefore help break down the mucous. Other oils to consider are Balsam Fir (will really open the airways), Sweet Marjoram, Frankincense and Lavender.
My son when little used to suffer from this disorder and I used a blend of several of the above both in a burner and in massage (of the back, neck and chest) and bought a humidifier for the room when he had an attack.
I hope your little boy feels better soon
love and light
