Does anyone have any tips for the household use of essential oils

I'll start.

When those little wooden shapes that we use to fragrance the inside of the car are past their best. I bring mine in, sprinkle with cedarwood and lime, and hang up in OH wardrobe to keep clothes smelling nice.

Use Pine and Teatree to final wipe after cleaning the fridge out.

Pot Pourri.....make a blend of patchouli or benzoin (as fixative), and any aroma you like, and mix into fir cones or acorns gathered and used as pot pourri.

or...use those nuts in shells, leftover from Christmas....as a base for pot pourri as well.......better than throwing them all away in June

Here are a couple of ways that I use my oils at home:

If ever one of my children needs a plaster for a cut etc, I add a drop of T-Tree and/or Lavender to the pad on the plaster before applying.

I add a few drops of an essential oil onto a cotton wool ball, pop it into a small organza bag and then put into the airing cupboard, fridge, drawers, shoes etc.

I often add a drop of oil onto the radiators.

I also add a drop into warm water when I am cleaning the sofa (leather), Patchouli is particularly good for this if you like the aroma.

Like Cirrus if anyone needs a plaster for a cut etc, I add a drop of Lavender to the pad on the plaster before applying.

I also add a few drops of lemon oil onto a cotton wool ball and vacuum it up. This is good for removing that vacuum smell and replacing it with the aroma of the oil you use.

I have a hundred uses - I do all as in the previous replies. I also add a couple of drops to the inner hem of curtains and open the windows to let fresh air in and the room always smells lovely then.

I always sprinkle a few drops on to my hall rug as well - usually something like frankincense and its really calming and welcoming when people come in.

I also give my fridge and worktops a wipe with warm water with lemon and pine.

If i think of more I'll come back later -bit early on a Sunday for me yet!

I use vinegar as fabric conditioner and add a couple of drops of which ever oil to the dispenser when using. Patchouli is nice on linens, the fragrance is very slight but lovely and fresh.

Vinegar and tea tree in the rinse helps keep the washer smelling fresh too.

I use Thyme or Eucalyptus to wipe down surfaces in the kitchen - good antiseptics, antibacterials.

Spray the rooms with a mixture of Bergamot, Lavender and Lemon mixed with water - to deodorise any household smells.

Lavender and Juniper and Eucalyptus are also very good space clearers to get rid of stagnant energy. Great for a spring clean.

I add essential oils with antiseptic properties to a bucket or hot water to wash the floors. Makes the whole house smell wonderful and can lift my mood in an instant!
