Prague is one of the main sex capitals of Europe but it can be a school of hard knocks for newcomers. This Infosheet should minimize your negative experience. It includes both my personal experiences as well as those of other mpnet Forum Prague members posted during 2003 and updated since. Remember they are subjective according to time, place and person. If you behave like a gentleman, the girls will reciprocate, at least the better ones.

1.2 Ground Transportation
Bus lines like Eurolines connect Prague to most European cities. Now they have to compete with low-cost airlines though. Trains are much more expensive, good only for overnight travels.
SECTION 2 Getting Around
2.1 From and to the Airport
Bus: Express bus #100 to subway B terminal "Zlicin". Every 30 min. Ticket (CZK 20) valid for 75 min can be also bought from the driver (CZK 25). City bus #119 to subway A terminal "Dejvicka".
Getting to Prague from Ruzyne (airport) using public transport by BadBoyX
Buy a bus ticket in the arrivals hall. Cost used to be Cz20.
Exit arrivals, cross the road and turn right. Go to the end bus shelter and take bus 119 into town.
Validate your ticket on the bus. Your ticket is good for one and a half hours to go anywhere on the busses or metro.
Take the bus all the way to Dejvicka metro station on the A (green) line (takes about 20 minutes). It's the last stop.
From here take the metro to wherever you want to go to.
Dejvicka is actually at the back of Letna Park so you're already close to the city centre
Airport transport: Cedaz (www.cedaz.cz/about-transport-services.php) (+420 221 111 111, 220 114 296, 224 281 005) provides transport between downtown and airport by shuttle car for CZK 120 o/w with 1 piece of luggage, every 30 min. (11/2007)
Taxi: rip-off (CZK 600+ from/to downtown), on meter (CZK 350-400). Cheating cabbies made a bad name for Prague internationally. See 2.2.

Short-term tickets
24-hour ticket: 80 czk (till december 31st, 2007) 100 czk (from january 1st, 2008)
3-day ticket (72 hours): 220 czk (till december 31st, 2007) 330 czk (from january 1st, 2008)
5-day ticket (120 hours): 500 kc (new from january 1st, 2008)

Since november 22nd single ticket (transfer ticket at 20 czk) is also available trough mobile phone. Send sms (text message) with text DPT to 902 06 20 Within two minutes you will receive sms (text mesage) valid as a paper ticket
2.2 Around the town
Interactive Maps (www.mapy.cz)
Prague Information Service (www.pis.cz) has several offices in downtown. They give out free simple downtown maps.
City transport - MHD (www.dpp.cz/index.php?q=en) - subway, bus, tram, train, maps (www.ropid.cz/cz/mapy.htm) - is quite good. 75 min ticket costs CZK 20 (25 when bought from a bus driver). Tourist 24h or 3 days tickets are not needed if you move only around downtown where most places are walking distance or short distance by bus/tram (ticket CZK 14 valid 15min). Tickets can be bought at tobacconist's, subway stops and bigger tram/bus stops (yellow vending machines). If you get caught by a ticket inspector, the fee is CZK 500 if you pay on the spot, 900 if you pay later in the MHD office. Ticket inspectors must carry a numbered badge and an photo id with the same # as on the badge. In subway they must wear an uniform. Some like to target unsuspecting tourists in downtown subway stops forcing them to pay on the spot which is not compulsory. Sometimes they even cheat (like claiming the ticket is not valid, etc.) and sometimes they are accompanied by metropolitan police.
Taxi: Avoid downtown taxis. If you need taxi, call any of the several taxi companies (AAA, Profitaxi, Dimo, Halo Taxi, etc. listed in Yellow Pages (www.zlatestranky.cz/YellowResult.do?headingFilter=id5801, section 333). They will tell you the exact price you'll pay to the driver. There is usually no arrival fee when phoned. City Taxi (257 257 257) allegedly responds to sms.
Paddy: "The cabbies often try and rip you off. I've had good success with AAA Taxi although developing a relationship with a cabbie is your best bet in the long run.
"Ask one of the bartenders to order you a cab from AAA Taxi who tend not to rip you off. If taxis are called by a bar or establishment, the taxi drivers like that type of business and give you the normal rate so they don't lose the business. You should also ask for a quote before you get in."

Beware of Prague's taxi drivers! They can often exert a lot of pressure upon foreign citizens to go to a specific nightclub of their recommendation. Make sure you NEVER comply with their urges for they are about to take you to such a club that pays them most for "people brought in". Always strictly insist on being carried to the very club of your choosing and never agree to be taken elsewhere. This problem of dishonest taxidrivers is particular to this country where up till the fall of communist regime the taxidrivers and waiters were the "workers aristocracy", then financially better off then doctors and teachers, and who with the new changes are unwilling and unable to accept the gradual change prevalent abroad. Do not take this warning lightly, Escort online wishes only the best for you!"
Renting a car: Not recommended if you plan to stay only in Prague. Local agencies can be several times cheaper than well-known worldwide brands (e.g. www.befacoal.cz - min. mpnet readers' recommendation: Mary's Travel & Tourist Service (www.marys.cz, phone: +420 222-254-007). They are allegedly very good at responding to emails and also rent mobile phones at CZK 100/day.
Paddy: "I've used Tom's Travel in the past and can highly recommend them. Everyone speaks English fluently and they will respond to your e-mail ([email protected]) very promptly. They have all types of housing available. Their office is located at Ostrovni 7 near the National Theater. They also pick you up at the airport."
3.2 Pensions and hotels
MarkABC: "Hotel prices may vary a lot during the calendar year... Prague hotels are sometimes crazy! If you need some help to find and book an accommodation in Prague, contact [email protected] . It's a travel agency specialist to East Europe. Managers are hobbyists themselves, so feel free to ask them what hotel is "girls friendly" or any other "hobby" related questions. They are helpful and share infos. BTW I never had problems in Prague hotels except at the Quality hotel. I was stopped 1 time in the Crown Plaza hotel lobby at 3:00am by security staff but finally was allowed to go back to my room with my "temporary" companion."
Prices start at about CZK 1000. Privacy may be a problem in some. Some disallow female visits at all and some demand extra payment, what to speak of looking down at you. Really bad in this regard is Hotel Kampa - Stara zbrojnice (experience of my U.K. friend).
On the other hand, girl-friendly ones are Four Seasons Hotel (recommended by Johny Doh), U Krale Karla (recommended by Paddy), Hotel Olsanka (recommended by my U.S. friend), L'Andel's, Palace Hotel (both recommended by Traveler0099), Bonaparte Pension (here they want CZK 550 if you bring a girl for the whole night).
About 5 min walk from Show Park (see 5.5) there is Hotel Extol Inn (Pristavni 2, Praha 7 - Holesovice). Private flats in the area.
