Check out "sp411 Cambridge". There's a guy on there called "play4me" on page 3, he has a good list of tips to avoid getting scammed.

The title is "here's what I have done to minimize scams and danger of using Leolist".

I agree with him, especially on ads that show the girl's face. I also noticed the same girl's pictures in more than one city at the same time. Asking the girl if you can make a phone call before meeting to make sure it's not a male pimp you're texting, can also help.

I also wondered in the past about getting a pocket pepper spray. I wouldn't use it on anyone, and I think it's illegal, but it would only be used for self defense, just in case.
