Pretty good report of Guangzhou. I was there in May and it's a shithole, stayed at the Canton Hotel. Maybe i was running late or didn't have time to explore the area. The humid weather will prevent most monger from venturing out deeper into Guangzhou.

You mentioned about all the massage suana and barbarshops services with the "happy ending", that's great but you can get that in Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Dongguan. What we are really interested in is which one of these massage places offer full service sex?

Generally speaking there is good luck to be had in Guangzhou. Around the City Center area, visit Hill Bar directly across from the Garden Hotel, you can generally find a few nice women Mon - Fri with W/E's offering more. A short distance from Hill Bar, is the Cave, Fri & Sat's are generally packed with people, weekend's you generally have a dozen or more women to choose from. Directly up the street visit Ting Bar, there you enjoy live music, as well as a host of ladies, Asian & European. One other location is "Club" street @ the Holiay Inn, several bars on Club st, check out the Wave. There are several Barber Shop massage parlors a very short walk from the Garden Hotel. Behind the Garden Hotel you find the Irish Pub "Paddy Field" walk past the Pub a few hundred meters,there you will come to an intersection of small roads, continue walking the same direction following the road as it bears to your left. Here you will find about 6 Barber Shop massage parlors, all safe, with attractive ladies to serve you, expect 200, maybe 300RMB + 50rmb for the house for a HJ. There are several Spa massage parlors, I have visited just one next to the China Palace Hotel just past Mc Donalds, expect a nice relaxing atmosphere, shower, scalp & foot massage if you like, nice private rooms, each of my visits have had happy endings. In addition to the fee at the front desk, 200rmb got me a wonderful HJ both visits.

Yes, I have to come for a business trip to Shanghai in August, but I'm trying to delay it until September (after the Olympics) if I can - and I might be forced to, because we have to jump through more hoops to get a visa (need a letter from a Chinese govt department, not just a business), so mightn't get it in time. That's one less hotel room occupied during the Olympics...

There are many restrictions and security measures now happening in China, in my area (Beijing) it is becoming chaotic, for example some restaurant workers who are not beijing permanent residents are being 'asked' to return to their home towns, other workers are getting similar 'requests', some restaurants are closing for two to three months, family businesses are going down the drain. When the PSB make a request you better not ignore it.

Paranoia is the norm for security services at the moment, restrictions on visas are the tip of the iceberg.

Currently tourism is fifteen percent down year on year and bookings for hotels during the olympic month are below expectations and proices are dropping (but still expensive) from the unrealistic eight or ten times normal rack rate. Everyone here wasa expecting to make a fortune from the millions of overseas visitirs coming to China but the 'millions' of visitors became 'about half a million' and is currently being mooted as 'thousands'.

No one is sure when the restrictions will end or how many will become permanent, my guess is sometime in october things will be getting back to normal.

I wouldn't be suprised if the prices go up for foreigners at least. Ditto the cost of hotels, cab fair, etc.

There are olympic events all throughout the country, for instance, all the swimming events will be around Shangdong in Eastern China. In south china, the only thing I know of is the Equestrian events which will be in Hong Kong.

In general though, China is limiting visas to foreigners for the olympics. Before, you could go to HK and get a same day visa to china, but now, it takes at least one day.

I think, unless you wanna go watch olympics, it might be better to wait a bit.
