Making aromatherapy products

Hi, can anyone tell me what what amount of lotion/bath oil/bubble bath to how many drops of essential oils ?
i have some base products just need to know what amounts to use, any help would be great.

First of all I wonder if you are an aromatherapist, as it is important to know the properties of the essential oils, so that any oils that may cause skin sensitisation or irritation are not used.

Ooh Froggy, if you are going to start 'experimenting' I'd recommend at least getting a book and having a good read before you start. It's not always as simple as what quantity is required.

Hi Froggy,

I see that you have been doing a VCTC course in Aromatherapy so you should know enough about the oils to use them safely. What I do is first of all decide on what blend of oils I am going to use and then I calculate 2% of the total amount. So if the bottle is 200 mls and divide that into the blend. I don't work in drops, but if you do then 20 drops = 1 ml of essential oil.

So the calculation would be 200mls divided by 100 x 2 = 4mls bearing in mind that there are 20 drops in each ml the amount in drops to use would be 20 x 4 = 80 drops of essential oil. I trial the blend prior to making up a larger amount by trying it out in parts (total of 10) thus:-

4 parts Geranium
3 parts Frankincense
3 parts Sandalwood

So if I liked the blend I would go ahead and do a larger amount.

80- divided by 10 x 4 = 32 drops
80 divided by 10 x 3 = 24 drops
80 " " " " = 24 drops

Add them all up to make sure you come to the total of 80.

(By the way I have not tried this blend so I have no idea what it would be like - it is just an example.)

hi, i have covered the measurements of the crrier oils and how many drops per blend %, but werent sure if it was the same for lotions/creams/bath products etc, i am still lerning.
but am greatful for any help
