Microdiscectomy Back Consultation

My fiance will be going in for a surgery consultation next thursday. He has a herniated L4/L5 disc. He has had the pain for about 2 years now. When it first started his family dr daid that he has muscle tightening so they put him on muscle relaxers. that didnt work then he went to a chiropractor for a couple of sessions. They did thermal screening and did say his L4/L5 disc area was irritated but said he was out of line. That didnt work so we wnt to a back specialist. Thats when we had x-rays done then he sent him for a MRI. Thats when we were told that he had a herniated disc. He then refered us to a pain specialist were he has done 4 shot and are on 3 differnt medacines and nothing to seams to work. If anything its getting worse.

I was reading up on the back surgery and was feeling really good about it untill i started reading all of the forums. My fiance is 23 and works as a electrician. We also have a 10 month old son. He luckily will have short term and long term if we need it. I am just wanting to get some info and help explaining the procedure and post op from people who have actually gone through it and and advice yall have would be greatly appreciated too!!

Its good that you read forums, here you can read real people experiences with back surgeries.

If you are able, for your own good, try to get referral for consultation and surgery (if needed) with dr. Martin Knight at The Spinal Fundation. He is one of the world leaders in spine surgery... unfortunately, as I can read on internet, people have a lot of troubles to get consultation with him.

Yes i am wanting to get as much info as possible before he has it done.

Where is he located at? We are going to one of the Drs in our city who my family has used for many years. So i feel really good about him doing it just not too sure of the surgery still.
