MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - Minot State Beavers now have some exciting new additions to their student health clinic.
They’ve recently purchased a massage chair, a seasonal affective disorder lamp and a sound lounge—all for part of what they’re calling the “Serenity Suite.”
Inside the Serenity Suite are three different rooms serving one purpose—to give students, faculty and staff a space to relax.
Junior Sadie Weninger said she’ll find it most helpful during the long winter months.
“That’s when my stress level is at the peak, so when I found out about it, I was like ‘Oh my gosh, I got to go check it out,’” said Weninger.
Director Debra Haman said they were the first in the state to purchase the bed in the sound lounge room.
“It uses the acoustics from the headset as well as the vibration of the bed to activate cells in your body for healing. It also provides relaxation. You should be able to do a full, deep sleep on this bed if you’d like,” said Haman.
Haman said there are more than 300 songs to choose from.
“I know not a lot of campuses have such a wonderful outlet that we can use just like a massage chair whenever we want. And, it’s free—I think that’s the best part,” said Weninger.
The seasonal affective disorder lamp can almost mimic the benefits of the sun.
Haman said in the coming weeks, they’ll have more massage chairs in more accessible areas on campus.
“Our students speak volumes to us and we listen,” said Haman.
She said they were able to save a portion of their budget from student fees as a way to give back to the MSU Beavers.
Students, faculty and staff can schedule appointments online or in person.
The Serenity Suite is open Monday to Friday, and they’ll also be having an open house on Thursday at 1 p.m. It’s located at the south entrance of Lura Manor.
