Ping Chayada, a twenty-year-old Thai singer, passed away in the hospital while receiving treatment for complications arising from a neck massage. Her boyfriend announced her death at 6:08 a.m. on Sunday, after she had been in intensive care for brain and nerve damage. Her body has been taken to her hometown in Phibun Rak District, Udon Thani Province, as per reports.
Ping had shared on social media on October 28 that she had gotten a massage in Udon Thani to alleviate neck and shoulder tension. Unfortunately, she experienced back pain later when a staff member used a neck-twisting technique.
A week later, she started feeling numbness in her arms but thought it was just a minor problem. She went back to the parlor for more treatment, where a different masseur used stronger pressure. After this second session, Ping experienced severe bruising and worsening symptoms, such as intense numbness in her limbs, chest pain, and stomach discomfort, which greatly affected her daily life.
After getting medical advice, she was diagnosed with nerve compression due to injuries from the massages. Ping shared her story online to caution others about being careful with massage therapy. On November 18, she posted her last update, saying she was receiving treatment alone and couldn’t reply to messages. While she was hospitalized, her boyfriend frequently updated her condition, indicating that she needed oxygen support and was dealing with anemia.
When the massage parlor was inspected, the manager couldn’t determine when Ping had visited or which masseur had treated her, explaining that the staff worked part-time with irregular hours. However, they confirmed that all therapists were licensed professionals, according to reports by Khaosod.
“I was surprised to hear the news. We have consistently informed our clients that massage can only offer slight relief and that they should consult a doctor if they feel intense pain,” the manager stated, noting that neck-twisting methods are seldom used because of their difficulty.
Officials have not yet released a conclusive statement regarding the situation. Ping Chayada, recognized for her soothing musical approach, was an artist managed by Guitar Record.
