Oil Treatment and Towels

I have started doing indian Head Massage with oils in a seated position. I am planning to wrap a towel around their upper body - my problem is, how do I secure the towel? I can't seem to find any clips that are suitable.

Any ideas?

Hi Sig

You can get towelling sarongs that have velcro that secure themselves into place. I think you can get these from majestic towels, and maybe other towelling places. I use normal sarongs and just tie them, which is another option.

What a great question! I have never thought of that!! Calmspirits that is a great idea too!! Im sure the clients will be a lot more relaxed too - knowing there towel is going to stay put!
A few clients I have done have sometimes been a bit stiff at first as they thought there towel was going to slip, once into the massage they would "loosen" up - but its better if they can be loose to start with! lol

Isnt it funny that we think if we tense up something will stay put on our bodies!

P.S - yes, the tension thing was my main concern - I don't think I could bear it if they were trying to hold up their towel the whole way through the treatment Plus I do a lot of work on the arms - so you can't be too rigid for that.

Slightly changing subject, have you not thought about a portable massage chair, I used this method of towels and found it wasn't comfortable for the client, I went searching for massage chair, on ebay, I bought mine for £50.00 all in, and found this more comfortable for the client, and allowed myself to move more freely.

is this oil on the shoulders and upper back or just the scalp?

i give the client the option of warm oils on the scalp with hot towel wraps, or not. i find with IHM, lots of clients like the idea of little disruption to their "appearance".

I have been doing IHM for 8 months now, I have only just recently started experimenting with oil treatments after I passed my aromatherapy.

I do an Indian Head Massage with oils - normally in the evening. I apply the oils first of all to the hair and comb through. Then I do the massage with oils on the back upper arms and shoulders and neck. Then a massage the head and after a gentle massage of the face. I advise the client beforehand that it is better to leave the oils on the hair for 10 hours then wash out. This is why it is better to schedule the appointment in the evening - they can wash out the oil in the morning. Or on a free day when they don't have to go out anywhere. - I also do a normal IHM without oils for people who are going out or just would rather not have the oils.

I have looked into the massage chairs but - I so do love doing the facial massage and I am not quite sure how this would work with the portable massage chairs.

But you can still do the IHM without oils and the clients fully clothed. You could offer your clients either treatment and they'll think that they are getting more for their treatments.

When i offer IHM I offer with or without oil on body and for head. some prefer oil just on the back, shoulders etc but not on the head whilst others like it on the head too. As I have not aromatherapy yet the only oil i use is almond oil.
Dont forget to remind your clients that if they do have oils in the hair - when it comes to washing out to put on shampoo before putting water on!!! lol

The massage chair - is it one with or without face holder?? If its one with face holder (sorry not sure of name) couldnt you ask the client to set back a little so you can get to their faces when it comes to that part of massage??

It comes without face hole. It looks good though, check out ebay, theres still a few left, worth a look, esp. for a good bargain deal.

My b/f got me one from ebay with removable head holder and there is not a bit of meteal sticking out, which was my concern! I sit on my chair mayself to read, so comfy!!

How much did your b/f pay for that starrie? I am afraid it could be a bit far out of my price range, but when I get a few more customers I may be able to splash out on one.

I used the towels the other day and it was great. The lady really enjoyed it and booked another appointment. I do explain to my clients that all treatments are customisable as everyone is an individual so they do deserve a treatment that is custom-made just for them. Which is the best way to be IMO.
