T'puram: Police conducted raids at 25 spas and massage centres across the city as part of Operation D-Hunt to curb the flow of drugs on Sunday.
Even though police couldn't seize anything in the raids, one spa near Thampanoor railway station was ordered shut for not possessing valid documents. The raids were held at Kazhakkoottam, Museum, Thampanoor, Peroorkada, Sreekaryam, Fort and Thumba police station limits.
Meanwhile, Peroorkada police arrested Soorya Niranjan, 27, of Oolampara, and Vinil, 23, of Peroorkada with 2.85 grams of MDMA on Sunday. They were arrested based on suspicion while police were on their way to a massage centre for the raid as part of the drive at Ambalamukku.
"A notification was sent to the city corporation to close the spa for not possessing a valid licence. The registration details of centres were also collected to check whether they are functioning as per rules. If found flouting rules, measures will be taken to close them too," said DCP Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh.
The decision to hold the raids at spas and massage centres was taken after Anju Baby, 32, of Palakkad, Sumesh, 29, from Perinkuzhy near Chirayinkeezhu, and Jiffin, 29, of Channankara near Kadinamkulam, were arrested from Attingal with 52 grams of MDMA on April 6.
During investigation, the probe team found that Baby was running a spa at Kazhakkoottam and her drug dealings were conducted there. When her call details and chat history were examined, police found that such centres have become a platform for major drug flow into the city. tnn
