EXETER TWP., Pa. — Authorities are investigating reports of human trafficking at two massage parlors in Berks County, and the owner of one is facing charges.
"They appear to be legitimate businesses, yet we know that what was taking place behind closed doors is not," said Berks County District Attorney John Adams.
A number of law enforcement agencies, Homeland Security and Zoe International executed a search warrant at Kim's Massage on Perkiomen Ave. in Exeter Township and Sun Spa on North 23rd Street in Mt. Penn.
"Our investigation revealed that both of these businesses were operating in a manner in which prostitution was being promoted and was occurring on their premises," Adams said.
Kim's Massage, which changed its name from Kim's Nails about two years ago, was suspected of offering illegal sex acts for money, according to court documents.

After a lengthy investigation, authorities have shut it down and arrested the owner on multiple felony charges of prostitution.
Signs were put on the door saying "Closed" and "Berks County Human Trafficking Task Force," as well as an order to vacate.
Investigators say they discovered ads on internet sites known to offer sexual acts for money that correlated with the Perkiomen Ave. address for Kim's Massage.
Reviews online detailed illegal sex acts performed on clients for money.
Investigators say they began doing surveillance at the property in February. The business was locked and run by appointment only.
Two confidential sources worked with law enforcement to provide information about what was going on, and confirmed sex acts were taking place for money.
On Tuesday, a search warrant was executed on the property, and police report items were seized that were related to prostitution and promoting prostitution.
Two Asian women were found to be living there, one who authorities say was hired under the premise of performing legitimate massage work.
Police say both women were not licensed by the PA State Board of Massage Therapy and the business was not licensed by the board.
Both admitted to engaging in sex acts in exchange for money while working at Kim's Massage, police say.

Lian Xiufang, the owner of Kim's Massage, was arrested Tuesday and charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors related to prostitution, according to court paperwork.
Xiufang admitted to police that she was the owner of Kim's Massage since January 2025, according to court paperwork.
Police say Xiufang hired the other woman under false pretenses of legitimate massage work during March of 2025.
Xiufang managed client appointments, material support for a place of prostitution, advertising, employee recruitment, and supervised daily operation of Kim's massage, according to police.
Police have charged Xiufang with four felony counts of promoting prostitution, two misdemeanors counts of promoting prostitution, felony criminal use of facility, and living of prostitutes.
Xiufang is awaiting her preliminary hearing and has a set bail of $500,000, according to court paperwork.
The district attorney says the investigation is ongoing and there is still a lot to be determined.
He asks anyone with information on either Kim's Massage in Exeter Township or Sun Spa on North 23rd Street in Mt. Penn to contact authorities.
