Re-using Aromatherapy Oil Bottles

I am making up individual blends to give as Christmas presents and have washed out bottles ready to use. My problem is that the dropper caps and lids still have the aroma of the oils that were in them. I did think that I would use the droppers in the bottles containing that oil but have since read that I should not be using old essential oil bottles as they could contaminate the new mix - hope that makes sense! Any thoughts? Thank you.

I would only use new bottles and droppers for clients and gifts. I sometimes use old bottles (washed in hot soapy water and then soaked for several days and washed again) for my own use..... but the caps and droppers are not ok to use again as they still have residue on them which is very difficult to remove............. but they are cheap to buy separately.

a therapist I know says that when they are washed in the dishwasher they are ok for use...... but I have to take her word for that as I don't have a dishwasher

I wash my empty bottles in the dishwasher and have been happy with the results but they have only been for my use or family

if giving gifts or charging for the goods then you should really buy new bottles, they are not that expensive to buy

You can buy brand new bottles with droppers and caps on ebay for about £5 for 36 bottles (post and package is about the same due to the weight).

So for £10/36 bottles, I don't mind paying this as they haven't been used before.

It is always a good idea to do things environmental friendly. I guess re-using oil bottles is not a big deal when the bottle is used to contain diluted oils, such as massage oil. However, it is not recommended to re-use old essential oil bottles as it is very difficult to get rip off the chemicals. Also, make sure you rinse it throughly when using detergent to wash the bottles. Remaining chemicals from the detergent can be very harmful to your oil.
