sensitisation V irritation

Can anyone help me as I am having problems understanding the difference between the two?

sensitisation
1 : the action or process of making sensitive or hypersensitive <allergic sensitization of the skin>
2 : the process of becoming sensitive or hypersensitive (as to an antigen); also : the resulting state
3 : a form of nonassociative learning characterized by an increase in responsiveness upon repeated exposure to a stimulus

irritation
Pathology. A condition of inflammation, soreness, or irritability of a bodily organ or part.
Physiology. The elicitation of activity or response in an animal or plant organ or tissue.

1.Extreme incipient inflammatory reaction of the body tissues to an injury.
2.The normal response of a nerve or muscle to a stimulus.
3.The evocation of a reaction in the body tissues by the application of a stimulus.

1 a : the act of irritating b : something that irritates c : the state of being irritated
2 : a condition of irritability, soreness, roughness, or inflammation of a bodily part

Sensitisation is something that develops over time, ie from using the same e.o or product

Irritation is more of an immediate inflammatory response
