The important thing with dealing with anxiety attacks is address the cause and not the symptoms. There are things you can to minmise and break the power of an anxiety attack, but the long term goal should always be to deal with the root cause.
Talking therapies are probably the best way to find the cause of these attacks and CBT will help you overcome the cause. Most NHS trusts will provide a course of CBT but there is usually a waiting list, and you may have to push hard for a referal.
There is a risk that if anxiety attacks and the stress that causes them isn't treated, then the sufferer may go on to develop depression, OCD or phobias like agoraphobia.
