Um teams already have a salary cap. Even though they don't it shouldn't be up to the league to determine a cap for all teams anyways. The owners of the teams don't grow money on trees. They negotiate with the players and not all players look for bank. Some players are loyal to their squad. Look at Jerry Rice. He didn't leave the 49ers, they let him go. Then he went to oakland, then denver, then back to san fran to retire where he started. In a one day contract he made $1,985,806.49 and retired. 1985(drafted), 80(his #), 06(retired), 49(49ers).

The new UEFA fair financial play guidelines should effectively act as a salary cap in the sense that Rooney couldn't get 200k a week unless man-u had a spare 200k to give him once their bills were paid.

In reality there are too many active leagues to make a salary cap manageable. Even the harshest cap ever wouldn't keep Essien in the Ghanaian leagues. It's different for Americans living on a 1 country planet but even in Rugby the salary cap doesn't really work because Union players can go to France and League to Australia

Yes, it would help bring football back to what it used to be, players showing loyalty to their clubs. The only way it would really work would be if there was a European or even a world wage cap so players wouldn't just go to other countys for a higher wage
