Singing Bowls

Hi everyone,
I have been using a single singing bowl for some time now at the end of each session & am now looking to acquire more of them.

Am curious to know what other therapists are doing if anything with them & or other sound therapy work during the course of their sessions.

Hi and thanks for the response.

I looked over the website & found some interesting info that I will review again. I have purchased a couple more
bowls since I first posted and they are amazing to play either at the beginning or ending of a session.

Fortunately for me there is another person locally who does sound healing demo sessions and also offers private sound healing treatments (also known as a sound bath) which are incredible. He places up to 4 bowls on either side of the head and at the crown as well, and has two gongs in the room. Treatments last anywhere from 1/2 hour to 1 hour and you feel as though you have left your body to fly away on your own personal sound & light show. The relaxation effect stays with you for days afterward.

There are a number of wonderful Singing Bowl CDs available of which I have 4 or 5 at last count and many of my clients love them !

Benjamin Iobst, "Seven Metals," is the singing bowls CD that I have. Unfortunately I can't use it in sessions -- I don't know if my room is too small or what it is, but the resonance of the sounds always gives me a headache right away. But it is gorgeous sound, and I don't think the problem is the music! But I think it's a good idea to try out this kind of sound in your room before you've got a client on the table -- it seems so gentle and serene (and it is), but it is also super intense on some level.

I have the following Singing Bowl CDs (which if you go on Amazon or other sites you can usually hear clips from each of them):

As to my favorites out of them, its a bit of a toss-up
I would have to say the Deuter/ Tibet & Tillmann's
Sounds of Planets are the top two, followed by Chakra
Delight & Seven Metals then Return to Om.

They say to play them through speakers, rather than using headphones for the energetic "sound bath" effect throughout the room. It is supposed to raise the frequency of the space as well as that of the listener.

I've had a couple of singing bowls in my room for a few years, have'nt quite worked out how to integrate them into the hands on work.
I also have a few gongs hung up which I occasionally use to finish a session.
The last one I bought, a 28" wind gong is just amazing they add an energy to the room even when they are not being played.
Got the last one from http://www.steveweissmusic.com. Great prices and they were prepared to ship to me in Australia by surface post which kept it affordable (but took 13 weeks)

The way I have used them depends a bit on the client,
but typically you can strike a bowl a few times at the start of a session. This has the effect of taking both you & the client into a more grounded & centered space from the beginning.

With some sessions I use them more frequently than others. If I'm doing energywork: this is done to increase the effects by placing the bowl directly on the body
(usually on the chest or abdomen, or on the lower back )
When you have the bowls on your body, or on the table itself, the vibration seems like it flows right through every cell of your being. It really is an amazing feeling.

I usually use the bowls at the very end of session by striking it, then bringing the bowl close to the crown of the head, moving it away & striking it again then bringing up close to one side of the head at a time. Next I strike it above the body and begin sweeping it down the body in figure 8 motions (at least 3 times). At the end of that I will often repeat sounding the bowl again up near the head once again.

Sound in massage is sooo cool and very important... I was very excited to see a thread on singing bowls in this forum as most MT's I talk to aren't as into sound as a therapy as I am.

I'm very blessed here in Toronto to have several people and sources to pick up instruments such as singing bowls and learn therapeutic aspects for them. I've used several instruments including rattles and rain-sticks to produce awesome effects in combination with massage and sometime partnered with energy healing or by itself.

Anyways, my two cents... definitely made my day reading this thread.

Its wonderful to have gotten back some positive responses from those who were interested. Thankyou all !

Aside from these amazing bodies we were all given, I love the concept of addressing the higher light frequencies which we also carry. I feel very strongly that sound
healing work, whether we are using singing bowls, other instruments or the voice (chanting, etc.) has an incredible
ability for moving & clearing energetic blocks which occur
mentally, physically, emotionally & spiritually. I've done all
of it in combination with energetic healing work, all of which
is quite a juggling act in the course of a session. It becomes a shamanic experience for me as well as my clients.
When one of those sessions occurs its usually because I'm guided to do it, and it takes on a life of its own.

I'm not sure how they compare to the singing bowls CDs mentioned - will have to give them a listen. However, it's always amazing how deep clients go when I have one of these CDs playing.

Healing Chakra Tibatan Singing Bowls

I use Tibetan Singing Bowls in my Healing sessions. You can use the bowls on the body or near. I prefer to gong them. They can really achieve some awesome results with vibrational healing, meditation, and relaxation. At my school's bookstore they just got in these large crystal bowls that correspond to different chakras and they sound pretty cool. They are huge about a foot and a half in diameter very impressive sound.

I use Singing Bowls and Tingshas when my intuition tells me that the client will accept them. Some people find it too esoteric, so I respect that.

I only have one bowl right now (maybe Mary is the one who keeps outbidding me on silversky's e-bay site ) I use the C bowl (Root Chakra) at the end of each treatment. My feeling is that the tone helps my clients ground themselves before they return to their days. I also use a high toned bell between sessions to clear the room. The difference is palpable.

Egomagickian mentioned that the bowl therapy is a little too esoteric for some of his clients. Many of my clients probably wouldn't groove on a full treatment, but the tones at the end aren't too "out there" for them. I think people are accepting of the tone as a signal of completion. If they ask about the bowl, I'll tell them.

I haven't had training yet and work intuitively with the bowl. I am going to go to a seminar on the bowls given by a Tibetan man on 11/03. I'll share with you what I learn. The bowls have such beauty and power and I really look forward to learning more from a master.
BTW, My bowl is from Hither and Yon and the tone is fantastic. Beware of inexpensive bowls that sound tinny and terrible.

I have some clients who are open to anything, and by and large, the folks who are accepting of Reiki are already open-minded. But this is a very conservative part of Canada, many people scoff openly at Reiki, so I can't imagine how they'd react to the bowls. :roll:
