Sponsorship question regarding salary

Hi, I know someone can give me some good insight- everyone here is so seasoned and knowledgeable-

I went on an interview last week (1st one) at a spa that only does massage and body treatments. Anyway, they are willing to sponsor me until I get my license in August.

The salary is $12/hr and 15% commission on ea. treatment, plus tips.
The place was beautiful, and the LMT that interviewed me seemed really nice.

What do you think of this as far as a sponsorship salary? She said when I became licensed, she would of course bring up my salary, but we did not discuss any specifics.

how much are services?... so you can calculate what is your average hourly

on the surface, it seems like a decent offer.

also, what city/area are you in? this wage may not be sufficient in some larger markets. other mt's in your area may be able to comment on what is common.

The services range from $85-130 depending on what you want.
The thing is, when working under someone elses license, we usually start out at a lower salary.

They provide everything including clientele.
I'm in Long Island, NY.

The only thing I'm waiting for is some kind of non-compete clause I have to sign, then I'll be back here asking questions again!

To make a fair comparison it is also necessary to add 20-40% to the hourly figure. This is because someone on an hourly salary is receiving benefits paid by the employer on her behalf including 1/2 of self employment taxes (FICA/Medicaid) and also workmens comp insurance and unemployment insurance premiums. There may be other benefits paid by the employer such as health insurance, vacation, sick days and the like.

The independent contractor, by comparison, pays for any of this from her own perceneforum.xxxe of the service.

So, in this example the $12 per hour might be worth as much as $17 per hour compared to an independent contractor who had to pay her own taxes and benefits.
