The operators of massages who lent money to Thais while staying illegally, forced them to engage in prostitution, held the victim who refused to do so, and demanded him to pay back the money after tracing him.
The Chuncheon District Court's Criminal Division 2 (Chief Judge Kim Sung-rae) announced on the 19th that it sentenced A (61) and B (40), a Thai, to one year and six months in prison and one year in prison, respectively, on charges of for-profit exploitation and violation of the Debt Collection Act.
According to the court, A, who runs a massage parlour, lent 16 million won to a Thai woman C, who is staying illegally, in October last year as a condition of working at the parlour.
Afterwards, A and B, who were in a relationship with the head of a massage shop, continued to demand prostitution from C against customers, and C ran away without informing them.
Then, they posted on a group chat room used by Thais, "I will give you 5 million won if you catch C," holding C and saying in confinement, "Pay back 22 million won, including the cost you spent to catch you." If you don't pay me back, I'll sell it to someone else," he threatened.
The court ruled, "It is difficult to say that A has a poor quality of crime and B's role is light," adding, "The sentence was decided by combining the fact that the victim seemed to have felt considerable mental pain and the failure to reach an agreement with the victim."
