Tips on working at a massage parlor?

Hey guys and girls

I'm new to the city and i was thinking of working in a massage parlor. I know there are two kinds of massage parlors. Obviously with me being in Canada Adult Fun forum, I know which kind I'm interested in getting into

So on with the questions

1. How much work can i expect to get in a day? The more work the merrier but I really don't know what i can expect as far as "customers" goes :/

2. I don't have any experience in this kind of work. Do I need special massage therapy license to work?

3. I hear there are room charge and then the actual fee. Does the owner of the massage parlor charge me the room charge and take a % of the "actual fee".

4. Is it safe to work in a massage parlor...uhmm i mean what if a guy tries something funny or is rough with me....do i yell or is there a bodyguard (no i don't mean a pimp lol) around to help me if there are problems.

5. How legal is it? I don't want to get busted by the men in blue if you know what I mean

6. Oh yeah if there are like 3 girls in the waiting room, do we take turns or does the customer choose who they want to see

Sorry for all the questions, I just don't know much of anything when it comes to the massage industry. If anyone can help answer some or all of my questions, that would be sweet. Thx all

Hi Chrissy and welcome to massageplanet. Just so you don't think we're being rude, I'm not sure how many responses you will get in a public forum. We have some of the same concerns that you do , if you catch my drift.

Might I suggest that you contact some of the MP's that advertise on this board. If they're advertising here, you can rest assured that they are meeting the needs of the clientele. Don't be surprised if you get a bit of the third degree. Anonymity is a wonderful thing, to a point, know what I mean?

1. Beats me. But I would guess the merrier you are the more customers and repeats you will get.
2. Yes in Calgary you need to take a "Course" with a specified number of training hours.
3. You should get 100% of the tip ... errr ... gratuity.
4. Usually other girls are there, I have never seen men as protection. Some places might have security cams at the entrance. Building up repeat clientele is your best bet. Ask for all cash up front. Probably your biggest risk is a guy who "forgot his wallet". Who forgets their wallet when going to an MP? Assholes, for one.
5. Not legal. But there is a way to get the client to do all the offering which should help.
6. Usually take turns, unless guy is a 'regular client' or makes an appointment with a specific lady.

Thanks JustGr8, d_duck2 and namssa. It was very kind of you guys to help me out. I felt stupid asking all those questions but I read a few threads before posting and everyone here is always so nice and helpful so I thought I would ask. I'm really excited to get started but the safety issue bothered me more than anything, now that I know that cameras are there, i'm feeling much better

I dated a massage therapist for a while (registered). Although not necessarily the same, perhaps some thoughts...

1) when she was new... work load seemed to depend on the clinic she was at, walk-ins, etc.. some days would be super busy, others not so much. Once she was around a clinic for a while, she built up regulars and was fairly steady. Keep in mind that therapeutic massage isn't something that one can do for 8 hours a day every day as it's very physically demanding. I'm not sure how relaxation would be.

2) I believe if you are only going to be doing relaxation massage then you only need a license from the city - LMT. I don't think you need extra training for licensed, but I could be wrong. You can always ask the citys business license division what is required.

In order to be a registered/certified massage therapist (therapeutic massage) then you have lots of school and lots of hours to get in (6 months + school, and a thousand or few thousand actual hours of practice).

3) Don't know... for RMTs each clinic has their own % cut on the per hour rate. For relaxation, I'm guessing it's the same. The place you work for has to pay to operate the business, clean the sheets,etc. etc. I agree and I can't see any place asking for your tips though.

4) Don't know... I'm sure you can get most guys out of your room/office without too much drama. Talk to the place you are interested in working at about their safety policies, bad experiences, etc.. RMTs take steps, I'm sure relaxation places do as well.

5) Best to get advice from people in the business and learn about proper terms/etiquette, and how to protect yourself and your clients. It is illegal to offer sex for money... but it isn't illegal for consenting adults to do the deed. I believe the rest is the gray area of fulfillment.

6) Again, I would think it depends on the clinic. Most guys will have a preference for who they want to see and will try to book if they've been to a therapist and liked her. Walk-ins were generally split for my x, so I would assume the same elsewhere. However, being that you would be new... I would expect some inequality if the other girls have been there for 3-4 years. Places will want to keep the new hires, but the girls that have been there with regulars should have some seniority...

You are best not relying on this board for legal advice.

You need a "massage" license from the city of Calgary to work in a massage parlor regardless of whether or not you are registered. Usually you have to take a course to get this license, and you have to agree to the city's massage rules in terms of dress, conduct, etc. Talk to the city.

Regarding the legality of sex for money. Prostitution in Canada is not illegal. Communicating for the purposes of prostitution in a public place is illegal. Owning, working, or being in a common bawdy house is illegal. This is the charge that is typically relevant to a MP. But, IANAL, best to talk to one. There are some good websites on this subject, but I don't have them handy. google is your friend.
