Warfarin & Aromatherapy Massage

Hi,

I know light massage is acceptable but not sure if I can use Aroma oils.

I know ginger is a no no

Any advice will be most welcome

hi Lotti........not sure about the ginger to be honest i can t see why not at a normal or low dose.What i have found in advanced aromatherapy is that lavender is contraindicated for those on anti coagulants!
I would be more inclined(sticking my neck out)to be careful with the massage pressure and use the oils at the low dose.Also check out the reason your client is on warfarin and maybe use that as a base for your choosing or not choosing ! oils hth Jane.

Wintergreen is also contraindicated when on Warfarin (Clinical Aromatherapy by Jane Buckle) but as it is a hazardous oil, you're not likely to use it.

Hi

I've been meaning to post on this one and I've tried to think what I would do faced with the same.

Wow, I didn't know that Lavender it contra-indicated. I think I would avoid using any essential oils now that I know that because I would have gone along the lines of gentle pressure and using only calmative oils (nothing stimulating).

Not sure that is of any help to you. I always err on the side of caution but that's just me!

I have massaged a few people who have been on warfarin, using normal pressure, the other oil to avoid is grapefruit as it accelerates the potentcy of the warfarin. My mother was also told by the GP not to eat the fruit while taking the drug.
