which course

I have a level 3 diploma in Aromatherapy vtct....whats next?.
There are a lot of oils i do not have access to with the vtct. A distance one would be good with an exam at the end.things to think about .Wanting to do more with what i have but wanting more information to use.Rayne x

What do you mean, do not have access to ? I did VTCT and am able to use all oils !

hi jojo, when i did my course,i had access to about 30 oils,but i was under the knowledge that unless i studied these other oils i would not be insured to use them.the other oils that i am referring to are amongst others Hyssop,nutmeg,clove cinnamon,mace,fennel,tagetes,oregano.(these are from the fragrant pharmacy)i know that i could study these myself but i still wouldnt be able to use them, through my insurance company fht tis...maybe i should look to another insurance company.xrayne

Hi Rayne,

You can use all the oils (apart from the unsafe list which you should have received with your VTCT), off the top of my head, the oils you have listed are not on the unsafe list.

What makes you think that the FHT won't insure you?

Hi i know this sounds really stupid more so now because ive been all this time not using other oils from the vtct list. i know that our tutor said that we could not use other oils because we had not learnt them and not been tested and our insurance company would know what oils we had used.i have a list also of the unsafe oils.
So if i were to use another not on the list oil..obviously i would have to research this myself? I do feel a bit dim over this and a bit annoyed as there is many a recipe i could use!.
I question now why we were told this.xrayne

Hi Rayne,

I am certain you would be able to use all the essential oils, as I said before apart from the unsafe list. I was a student member with the FHT 10 years ago, perhaps this is what you mean?... When you are training (and covered with student insurance) you can only use the oils specified in your course (back then it was around 16 oils, now it's 40), once qualified you can use all the oils you want (again not the unsafe list).

Yes research the oils you want to use by all means, there is loads of information on the net, all good companies like tisserand or essentially oils, quinessence will have detailed information on each oil, including contra-indications and precautions.

I hope this answers your question, if you are still unsure you could always ring the FHT (or whoever you are insured with) and double check, but I'd be surprised if they said you couldn't use oils you haven't studied with the VTCT.

I am also VTCT qualified and I use many more oils than the currently updated VTCT 40 list.
