I have lived in Edmonton for several years, and I have to say it's pretty much the $hithole of Canada. There are several reasons why:
1) It is one ugly fuckur of a town. Dry, dusty, dirty, trashy, the roads are in bad condition, there's at least one homeless guy around every block, and there's no aesthetic appeal to the city whatsoever. You might as well call it a dump, because that's literally what it almost looks like.
2) Edmontonians tend to be extremely rude, petty, and arrogant. It's hard to even approach half the people living there, much less befriend any of them. It's for that very reason that public services can prove to be a real nightmare. Some bus drivers are so rude that you would never want to take a ride on any ETS service ever again. They kick people off for no reason sometimes.
3) Edmonton is one of Canada's most crime-infested cities. To name some of the city's dubious honours - it is the murder capital of Canada (33 murders as of August 2011), has pretty much the highest rate of auto theft in the country within its metropolitan area, and is a major resort for drug trafficking.
4) There's literally nothing to do there besides visit the West Edmonton Mall, an oversized indoor marketplace stocked with stores that sell low-quality merchandise. Oh, and you may also be interested in enjoying a typical Edmontonian's #1 pastime - getting drunk. I swear, about 50% of the people in that city 15 years of age or older are alcoholics.
5) Road rage is such an epidemic in Edmonton that it would be surprising for you to turn on a TV there without hearing about a recent vehicle-related death. And even if you don't pay attention to the news, if you so much as set foot on a gas pedal at any time during your stay in Edmonton, you'll be among the first to attest that the drivers in Edmonton are positively reckless.
6) The weather conditions there are unpredictable and extreme. Winters are freezing cold, enough said. During the summer, it's not unusual for someone to literally be swarmed by mosquitoes.
7) Real estate is grossly expensive, just like everything else in Canada's $hithole. Yes, it's easy to find a job there, but not a particularly pleasant one.
So there you have it. Seven reasons right off the top of my head as to why Edmonton is an absolute dump. Has anyone here ever lived there before? Do you agree with me?
