Having a RMT licence does not mean the business has a business licence to operate.

Speaking to a few owners they do not seem to know the difference between what licence the MPA has and what the business need.

They might not know better but the people around them - the promoters, long time customers, etc should have known better.

Get whatever licence you need first to operate first. Worry about what you can or cannot do later.

Anytime you do something legally, your name will be on the public record. So, you want to carry on the business but you are not prepared to let others know.

I'm not sure where you are going with this. Or why you think that I think they shouldn't follow the rules. What I said is that the owners will not want to file any type of lawsuits. Court cases do not happen behind closed doors as I'm sure you know. They would also involve having to provide some type of evidence further exposing aspects of their personal life which at times may not always be on the right side of the rules, i.e CRA.

This hobby has a stigma attached to it. Being an owner of a spa has the same stigma. I'm sure they don't want their kids teachers, neighbors, other parents at daycare to know what they do for a living.

This is why they won't pursue a court case.

So I guess Spa ownership will never be a mainstream business because of the stigma attached to it.

I own a spa. My name is on the licence. I own 2 other mainstream business. My name is on the ownership papers. I signed all the lease agreements. I am the person who goes to City Hall to get the licence for the Spa. I am one of the largest supplier of Massage comsumables to the wholesalers who sells to these Asian Spas.

My name is out there if anyone does a search of the business. But is it that much of a Public exposure? Only interested parties will do a search. 99% of Joe public do not know or even care..

Like I said one cannot have it both ways. Is it a legal business or an underground (unlicenced) business. One has to make a decision.

Checking online today, price is $1274 for a body rub license, have to call to apply, not one of the licenses that can be done online.

As far as public record can't see it being different from other licenses like taxi or bowling alley or arcade, also listed same page; are any of those listed publicly anywhere?

I had the same question, haven't called that was in the AI summary google generates. If it for an owner that is chicken feed and not sure why it would be an issue, less than utilities for a couple of months, and can be written off.

Even for an attendant that is less than most competent girls make in a week, so a bit of an inconvenience; but if a one time expense vs annual, again not so onerous.

Maybe this is all a tempest in a teapot, for the by-law issue versus the zoning. and the hysteria is due to language and business barriers to fully comprehending the problem?

One lady asked me to check for her, waiting to hear back and may inquire further if that is what she wishes.

I think that is for an attendant plus they have to do a yearly checkup.

Just curious. Blue Nile is one of the few who has this licence. At one time I was told that she has a hard time getting MPA to work because they need to be licenced. Now I see so many new ones especially those coming from well known spas.

Anything changed? Or are these MPA moonlighting without a licence.

Her business is worth a lot just for the licence alone as the City of Toronto do not issue any more Body Rub Licence.
