Ashiatsu Bars

Hi all!

Anyone know of anywhere I can find a set of Ashiatsu bars? I know that Earthlite makes a portable set that can be attached to one of their tables but I have a Stronglite table that I don't want to get rid of. Nor do I want to spend the money for a new table. I've searched and searched and no luck so far. All help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately I don't know how that would be possible. Ashiatsu is a kind of massage done with the feet, and part of the setup is bars installed on the treatment-room ceiling (therapist stabilises himself/herself using them).

I don't know of anyone but there are Ashiatsu bars that are portable so someone may be in your area that does it on an on site basis.

You could also consider paying for a set of portable Ashiatsu bars if the therapist is willing to come to your home and they don't have them (expensive chioce, but if it works for you... ). Here are a few links to portable bars:

Pueppi is correct - permanent bars can be installed in the ceiling, or you can purchase portable bars.
But I should point out that the intended use of this Portable Bar System was designed for therapists who have successfully completed the Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® certification course.

portables aren't required, tho they are nice to have. Permanent bars are much less expensive and are great for daily use if you're in a location where you can install them.
Complete instructions for bar installation are covered during the course. The average price range for one set of bars in individual treatment rooms can range from $75 to $500 depending on materials and ceiling.

And, to back up what Stonegirl said about the permanent bars vs. the portable - the portable patented bar kit will run you about $1000 minimum and I don't remember if that covers shipping or not.

(A gal I work with bought the portable bars and mentioned that the shipping was a killer.)

The permanent bars are so much easier to handle if you're in a spot where you don't have to take down your table at the end of the day.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons that I posted.

I found the portable set online for the $1000 but read that it wouldn't be insured unless used with the Earthlite table. I have a Stronglite and am constantly jumping on it with my clients. My table has served me well for the last five years and shows no signs of needing replaced so I couldn't justify buying another table for an additional $500. Not to mention that I didn't want to take up the additional space in my office if I could avoid doing so.

I very much want to take the training and add this modality to my "menu" but doing so for me requires a little education, as I think anyone should.

Knowing what I know now, I am hoping to be able to go to Cincinatti for the August training session.

I'm soooo glad that I finally found this site :grin: after being in the field for so long. I'm further hoping to extend my career by being able to use this technique. I love what I do! And as challenging as it may be, I love working for myself!

What? That's crazy. As it is, the slats that actually connect to coworker's table look like they are nothing more than like poorly cut pieces of plywood. (I have studied them in detail, since I have helped her set up and take down numerous weeks at this apartment complex we do outcalls at.)

I really, really, really want to go out to Stonegirl's class in AZ next month, but I sort of don't think it's going to work for the timing would put me out of town 2 weekends in a row right as one of my jobs is going into its Insane Season. (I work in the office of a landscaping/nursery firm and spring means everyone wants their landscaping projects done now. )

Well, welcome aboard! I knew about this long before I decided to become an MT - a certain admin (she knows who she is) kinda dragged me over here first. :

I have been bouncing around trying to work with various people over the last year and it's been crazy. I am so glad as well to mostly work for myself. (Now I just need more clients! )

My experience has been that the portable bars are high quality. They are made of pine and maple, and are professionally manufactured.

I don't think it's required to have a new table to go with the portable bars. You can use a regular table just fine. I would highly recommend installing permanent bars though. There are so many different ways this can be done. My first Ashiatsu session was with a woman who used the portable bar system as her permanent set-up. They squeaked a bit, for one thing. And, she had to dedicate that room only to Ashiatsu treatments, as it was very difficult to move around the table to do other modalities when the bars are up.

I think that just means that you can't sue the company who sold you the bars, not that it won't be covered under insurance. That would be something you would want to make sure is included in your liability insurance.

Ashiatsu Bars

I'm resurrecting this post in hope to get some info and or feedback...

I have been wanting to take Ashiatsu for years, but the landlord (and other practicing MT) of my current space won't allow permanent bars to be installed. I have been looking at the portable bars, but quite frankly, I'm not sure if they are easy to disassemble or work around. Does anyone use the portable bars in their current practice and still use the room for other modalities with success?

I do a lot of Active Isolated Stretching in sessions and at least one Lomi Lomi session a day - which requires me to constantly move around the table. So I'm not sure if portable bars would work. I figure it's not worth taking the class if I have no place to practice or eventually add to my menu, but that would make my heart sad.

Vita - I think they would be very difficult to work around for a Lomi session. They do break down and set up pretty easily (about 20 minutes once you're practiced at it). I think it would be diffucult to break down or setup in between clients during the day, but if you weren't crunched for time - it wouldn't be too bad.
There are also some options for installing permanent bars that don't involve going into the ceiling... maybe that would be something your landlord would consider? In class, several different options are presented for how to install your bars.
