no.. we started a restaurant. She took time off to learn the business. and then took no pay while it was starting up. Covid hit and then we went from spending 2-3 hours/day together (and we kept pretty busy the rest of the time).. to spending 18 hours/day together. We realized then that we perhaps aren't very compatible after all...

Ahh there was stress but fortunately (or unfortunately now) my income was more than able to cover covid related shortfalls. Hah. Oh well.

Right, thought maybe it was related to the restaurant, good buddy mine almost lost his shirt through that mess. Restaurants are funky to begin with, without tossing covid in the mix

Hah thanks. It’s ok. I understand why the family laws are the way they are. And historically women have received the short end of the stick. And we did have a lot of good times together so there’s that.

Blame could probably be shared on both sides. I am hoping that I learned from the mistakes from the past and apply it to the future though. Better communication. Set appropriate expectations and boundaries. Only making promises that we can both keep.

Should have learned this in a class in high school

I've never been married but man, seeing yours and some other folks' stories on here I'm somehow less and less inclined to get married as the years pass. Having meaningful human relationships is the most important thing... but marriage? Seems like a path towards losing half my assets at some point .

I was married, years ago, never had kids but my career has me all over the world regularly, so it eventually it fell apart. No animosity, no payouts, just parted ways.
Would I like a partner, not sure at this point, it's definitely nice to come home to someone if you've been traveling a lot.

What is life without hope? After some reflection and subsequent introspection about the failed relationship and what is important to me, I feel that I can make a better decision next time. I guess history will tell, won’t it? Let’s hope I don’t repeat the same mistakes as the past.
