" Craigslist closed the adult services section of its website Saturday, replacing it with a black bar that says ''censored,'' just over a week after a group of state attorneys general said there weren't enough protections against blocking potentially illegal ads promoting prostitution.

The listings came under new scrutiny after the jailhouse suicide last month of a former medical student who was awaiting trial in the killing of a masseuse he met through Craigslist. That would be just the beginning in my opinion. The right wing would love to stiffen the law and make the hobby an obstacle course to get through.

In Canada there are serious concerns that Craigslist is used for the pimping of girls that are underage and those ensnared in the slave trade.

Leaving aside the general issue of prostitution, what further steps could Craigslist take ensure that underage or unwilling girls are not being pimped ?

When a pimp is caught pimping an underage individual the law should throw the book at him. 10 year minumum sentence if not more.

The same goes for any lady being forced into prostitution and it can be proven, throw the book at the pimp but leave the rest alone.

I lol when I see things like this. CL is a referal service, basically. The AG's may be patting themselves on the back for a job well done but you can't censor the internet. How many escort referal sites are there? How many will pop up now that CL doesn't post these ads anymore? Which category within CL will the ads relocate to? Or just start a CL type of site offshore?

These are just the alternatives I pulled out of my ass right now. Imagine someone with real know-how.

Prostiuition is illegal in America, because the Goverment has not found a good way to tax it. Once they do, it will be legal.

CL is perfectly legal in Canada. LE tried to nail Now Magazine back in the 1980's and got slapped down hard by the courts.

Anglo-Canadian criminal law says that carrying escort ads is not pimping or living off the avails. End of story. Fuck off, cops. That's all, folks. Go home.

I agree that most of the ads on CL are B&S, but there have been a few gems found there. Perhaps there should be stricter measures in signing up rather than a valid cell phone to send an authorization code to...?
