Well, this time at Ban Dao I actually got to see the live show in the bar area (also known as the show area).

I daresay it was pretty entertaining. There were two comedian singers, and four entertainers/ dancers who I think did a pretty damn good job.

I believe the minimum to sit here during show time is 200RMB or something, with mixed drinks runnign about 38RMB if I remember correctly.

Also, during the show, you can get girls as well. Price was same as last time so I chose one girl who was pretty wild, and when another called me from the "miss room" (I don't know if it's called that because they missed the chance to get customers or thats where all the little misses are) I got her as well.

OK, this particular place "Lion" (which is better known by however you say Lion in Mandarin) is apparently the oldest place in town. However, for some reason, it happens to be the best right now.

1. To get to the karaoke, you have to walk through a restaurant first.

So, as I couldn't get to ban dao the first night I stayed at another little hotel called Hua Mei. Boy this place sucked.

Well, in recent years, my HongKong friends who used to LOVE changping have all been complaining that the quality has been going down. Due to that, they have been experimenting with other areas. The Face of the Town
I daresay changping is starting to stabilize a bit. I don't see a bunch of construction going on anymore... everything pretty much seems to be built already. People still drive like maniacs, but there are sections of the city with stoplight cameras installed making it slightly safer.

The mini-mini-van taxis are for the most part gone, being replaced by legitimate taxis that are easily recognizable with phone numbers on the outside and signage on top. There are still illegitimate taxis, but they are usually in normal sedans now and operate somewhat discreety.

I hear they outlawed motorcycles as well, which was to curb snatchers (I don't remember that being a problem) so they say the city is alot safer now too. I could swear too that there are lots more nicer cars driving around, and in general, it almost feels the city has calmed down drastically.

The (not-so) almighty dollar
Wow. The dollar is taking a killing here. The dollar is 25% weaker than it was just two years ago. Whereas before the standard fee at a normal hotel for a karaoke girl to sit with you used to cost $24.00 (200rmb) it now costs you $30.00. An allnighter used to run $96 (800RMB) but now it costs a whopping $120.00. Still a deal, but man, 25% hurts.

The multi-tier system
It turns out that many places have instituted a tier pricing system at the saunas and karaokes. While I didn't go to any karaokes that had it, Hui Hua Sauna did in fact have the traditional 300RMB girls along with new 500RMB girls. The 500 RMB girls (they brought in 2 of each at a time) wore nicer see through dresses, had g-strings on, and did a turn during their presentation. In general, the higher priced girls are taller...which does nothing for me since I like shorter petite package types of girls.

Floods are for duds
While this isn't exactly new, the floods are something I experienced firsthand this trip. It gets so bad that cars will just stop on the road and get out. I saw some places getting about knee deep, and there were PLENTY of cars that had their engines seize from water ingestion that had to be towed away. The night I arrived was so bad, that after 2 hours of trying different routes to get to Ban Dao, we had to give up and I had to sleep in a crappy sauna room.

Mmm... I just got back and haven't sorted everything out yet, but in my opinion, even if it is flooded (and I have seen pictures of cars half submerged by water) it is still the best spot for tourists.

Without crossing the street you have hui hua next door, and virgin hotel on the other side of the block. You cross a small street and there is one more place... jia hua? I forget the name. Those are some of the nicest hotels inthe area.

Also, you got a 7-11 next door, a mcdonalds across the street, an american bar, a laundry place and a bunch of dvd stores on the other side of the street and some of the best restaurants in town all right there.

Since you have been to ChangPing before, if you are interested in Karaoke, the best one right now seems to be "lion". It is apparently the oldest place, but right now has the best chicks.

Given a choice though, for ChangPing if not Ban Dao (which I only like because I am so familiar with it and it has a good karaoke) I would definitely stay at hui hua miraton or virgin.

If you want something new, you may want to check out Royal Garden in Dalang (neighboring town) or go all the way to Houjie. Price is more expensive, but better if you prefer the tall types.

Hi there, going to DG next week. I have only stayed at Miraton before any suggestions for a better choice? Seem hard to get a taxi from Miraton most of the time and it's in an easy flooding area.

I had to deal with all the Visa issues myself. I ended up getting a double entry (valid for 6 months). If you go for a multiple entry, some Chinese Consulates require you have an invitation letter from China. If you're parents were literally of Chinese origin (not Taiwan), I think it is alot easier. If you have a Hong Kong passport, it is easier as well... you can get some sort of ID card, making it a lot faster. You may want to check on the web.

Regarding transportation, it sounds like most of the people I know prefer TRAIN (though I don't know where the train station is). When we went, we had a driver who drove from Shenzhen, so it wasn't that bad, but the traffic could be kind of unpredictable. Also, not sure I would want to sit in a cab for an hour.

Also, I would definitely recommend going with some friends if you plan to go to Karaoke. It's a big room, and you want at least ONE other guy, preferably someone who doesn't have an English accent.

OK. Thanks for catching that. Dong Guan is in Guan DONG province, not Guangzhou. I will ammend that.

If you are asking how far Dong Guan is from GuanZhou/Canton , I believe is it about 30-45 minutes by train. Driving, it took about 45min - 1 hour from Shenzhen.

From what all my HongKie friends tell me, CP is MUCH better to play around in money wise. There may be cheap stuff in Hong Kong, but for the same level in China, it's even cheaper. Plus, the selection is ridiculous.

I'm not sure about the English level of the girls in Hong Kong, but in CP a tour guide or Chinese fluent friend is definitely needed. You could probably get away with just Cantonese if you have to. Incidentally, knowing Japanese or Korean is no help (suprising since a lot of business men from said countries there).
