GP consent for Pregnant client

Hi Doq,

I ran my own Clinic for 5 years, locally, and it was origianlly a cottage hospital, renovated and turned into a health centre.

The main part of the ground floor was given over to a GP's surgery - a very popular and well liked man who was open to all things CT.

We had my clinic and then a remedial massage clinic, also a Chiropracter and an Oesteopath, and various other practitioners, such as in Shiatsu, Homeopathy, Acupunture etc., who came in and rented our rooms from us when we were not there.

We all worked in total harmony, and patients were referred to us by the GP and vice versa. I recall just one of many incidents, when one of his patients, an elderly lady, having a Reflexology treatment with me when she complained of a tight feeling in her chest, and not being very well for a couple of days. I felt she had a termperature too, and I finished the treatment there and then and took her down to the Surgery, where she was promptly diagnosed with Bronchitis. Early stage so very quickly dealt with. Hand in hand - working together for the good of the patient/client - it was blissful

After 3 years this wonderful GP left for a new placement in Scotland. The Surgery was turned into a computer training centre, and things were never the same again, sadly[:-]

This was an innovative idea which definately paid off. I do wish there were more Gp's like him and yourself.

Gilly - that must have been great! It is the vision of Integrative Medicine that we all work together like that, and there is a lot of work going on to help achieve this - see the Foundation for Integrated Health, British Holistic Medical Association, Doctor Healer Network, etc.

Have you heard of the LIFT program? new "one-stop shops" are going up all over the country, designed for approx 25 doctors under one roof, as well as pharmacy, physiotherapy, social services, dentist, etc and these usually have facilities for complementary therapy planned in.

The most recent newsletter from our beloved General Medical Council [:'(] gave an example of modern general practice where complementary therapists were working in a surgery - now that did surprise me

That sounds like a wonderful setup. What a shame it had to come to an end.
Last year I set up my own clinic (multi-discipline alt med) right next door to a GP surgery. I was hoping we would be able to establish a similar relationship.
4 days after opening my clinic, the surgery went up for sale! The GP had been struck off for the most terrible things. So, alas, it was not to be.
On the bright side, I bought the building and am now in the process of expanding. After a lot of cleansing and smudging of the building, I am now pleased to have a bright and peaceful atmosphere. Many of my patients have commented on the irony of the whole thing...

It is so encouraging to hear stories like yours, and to have GPs like Doq around.

I know exactly how you must have felt[&:] So pleased it has all worked out for you

My Lease has run out and I am now concentrating on lectures, workshops and diet and nutrition as I am getting past the age when I can perform a decent remedial massage[sm=speechless-smiley-008.gif] but I find that in Complementary Health, one discipline leads forward onto another: so much more becomes open to you, espeically if you enjoy study and research.

I have indeed heard of the LIFT programme. All the therapist and staff at our Centre KNEW this was the only way forward. All I can add to your post is that I hope it is in my lifetime too
