Correct me if I'm wrong. But why was it that the DRUG AND VICE SQUAD visited this MP rather than uniformed officers, by-law, or morality squad. Does DRUG and vice squad have nothing better to do than look for girls selling pussy? Common sense tells me that they were looking for drugs! But just didn't find any on that particular visit, so they went with whatever charges they could place. Hmmm, do you all believe in UFO conspiracies too? Thank God there are people capable of some reasoned thought who really decide the governments (the 25% silent decisive swing votes). There was a question in one of the leader debates in which the leaders were asked if they would create legislation to reverse the recent court decision OKing group sex. Everyone - Harper, Martin, Layton peed their pants and whimped out for the politically correct answer - except amazingly enough - the PQ leader who basically said it was none of the state's business and he had better legislation to tackle.

Richmond Hill has decided it doesn't want any adult entertainment types of business' in town.
They succesfully shut down any SC's, they are finishing off the final few MP's and I am sure they will tackle the few incall SP's that operate in town.

My only question regarding this thread... is WTF do provincial and federal governments have to do with this.
Both have turned over responsibilties regarding this, to the municipal governments ages ago.

The people in this thread who keep blaming party politics on this, should educate themselves before shooting off.

Yes, the decision to get rid of adult businesses was taken at the municipal level in Richmond Hill, as it is everywhere else. But is this not the way things should be done? On St. Clair Avenue West- my old part of town- a group of citizens got together to ban a drive through MacDonalds, something I supported. After all, they are the people who live there. I think we should respect the municipalities decisions in this respect, and go to parts of town where they allow MPs to operate (There are lots on St. Clair, by the way, even if there is no drive through McDonalds.). Now if only there were a municipality that banned churches....

Fully agreed! Maybe people think that there is a new sense of conservatism in Canada now, and they assume that municipalities will adopt it post-haste through their own by-laws and enforcement. In my opinion though, unless the issue of MP's or SP's was a burning election issue, which it wasn't, there is virtually no likelihood that a municipal LE's enforcement of MP and SP activities will change because of Federal or Provincial politics.

The only way it could have been an issue is if there was a national MP/SP story that the politicos could leverage for more votes, or if the political parties made Found-In, Living Off The Avails and Communications portions of Canada's Criminal Code some sort of issue. However, there is no way that would happen - they are more focused on hot-button issues like health care, education, taxes, national unity, scandals, etc... In my opinion unless it was discussed in the election MP/SP enforcement will not change at all regardless of election outcome.

What I think is that many leaders promised and made an issue of gun crimes in the GTA. If there was going to be any shift in LE activities in regards to a federal election, I hope it would be on that issue - and I doubt any shift would come immediately on that, even though it is one million times more politically charged than any MP/SP issue.

Lancs you can go on La-Dee-Daing, but the fact is that there are more Liberal supporters on this Board than there are Tories. More Ontarians especially Torontonians voted Liberal. Somehow when a Govt. that you do not support is doing a good job on the economy, then yes you will credit it to the external factors i.e. NA Free Trade, American greed for Canadian goods etc etc. No, not the fact that Martin did a great job on his tight fiscal control on spending (sensibly), and getting rid of the Mulroney /Campbell deficit. Even the British Conservatives admired what Martin did for the economy. Time will tell what this new Govt. does, and how withdrawing from Kyoto (to please his buddies Klein & Bush) and greater Government spending. plays out for the rest of us.

Hopefully, no more MP (s) get shut down, and no other Muncipalities follow in Markham's footsteps. All in all Tory or Liberal, we love our MPA (s) . I will drink to that.
