hi all,
when i trained back in the dark ages (1996) it was the VAI not theVTCT (it's the same place tho in bognor regis). I thinkmine was one of the very first aromatherapy courses being offered by the colleges (bromsgrove)and it was considered advanced.we had to cover 20 oils plus 4 base (do a research project), body massage of all limbs, trunk, stomach, face, head, hands, feet, lympthatic drainage, anatomy & physiology of the whole body systems, the muscular system, business studies/running your own salon, blending/mixing, pharmeceutical/chemical side of the oils, plus more. A exam at the end of each body system with a pass of 100% for each one.I'd have to have a look through my course work now, its been a while.
what I do find really maddening is, I some associations to join and they said I wasn't qualified enough!! [sm=banghead.gif] AND I'M STILL NOT! GRR! As has been menchoned to do some bridging course that costs a fair few hundred quid. Well I'm sorry they can stick it where the sun doesn't shine!
The VTCT has been going since the 1960's in one guise or another regognised by the goverment for training in holistic & beauty therapy studies. How more authentic & long standingdoes a school have to be? I personally think that it's all to do with some private schoools charging a awful lot of money for their courses and colleges being subsidized by the goverment to provide education. That's why they won't allow VAI & VTCT trained aromatherapists reflexologists to join. I'm not saying all private schools are like that I hasten to add.
As to a provider of oils etc. The company I've always found really good have been ESSENTIALLY OILS of oxford. They was recommended by the VAI back when I was at college and I trust them. They are a good family company too. The owner of the company charles sends a brilliant newsletter out to all the buyers which is a great way of keeping up to date with the current aroma news, new oils and their properties, etcand in a way continuing professional development.
I must say though, I find it strange that a course offers aromatherapy without massage, if you wish to be a aromatherapist that is?
Bright Blessings,
Sharon. x
