wearing red

hi guys,

my tutor told us at the time when she was teaching us that when we give treatments, that we have to make sure that we wear something red so we can ground ourselves.
Has anyone else been told that by their tutor?

Dear Farideh,

Just at the end of my IHM course now and have never been told anything like that. I do otherenergy work(like Reiki) and in that case grounding (for both the therapist and the client) is important. There are quite a few ways to ground somebody. The base chakra is red and is also for grounding, suppose that is where the suggestion comes from. I am not sure that just wearing the colour would ground somebody, however, if you are comfortble with that and wear the colour with the intention that it is grounding then that is ok.

Some more ideas:
If you feel you realy want to ground a person it could be as simple as giving them a glass of water after the treatment. If they stand up and stamp their feet on the ground a few times, that is also a method of grounding. I could alsosuggest that at the end of the treatment you pull your fingers through the client's hair, press your hands down on their shoulders and ask for grounding. You can also just keep your hands still on their head for a moment, visualise light (red if you want to) going from the clients crown, through their body into the ground.

Lots of way to ground a person - hope this gives you a few ideas.

Certainly no expert, but I was told that both we and the client should remove our shoes to help with the grounding.

Hmmm, I was told that in my Reiki but never in IHM. Have done 7 clients at the college, all with shoes on - suppose to look professional and all that- wonder how likely that is without shoes??

Another thought - 15 trainee therapist in a room with 15 clients -no shoes - phewwww, I can smell it from here!!!

Strange what different kind of things we all learn! I suppose the things is, we have to do everything by the book, once you have your bit of paper I suppose you have to do what is right for you.

we were told when give treatments, to ask the client to take their shoes of fso we can ground them at the end, by going over their head shoulders down to their thighs, and down to their feet, and brush off the negiative energy, and the colour red is base on chakra like you said jobelle.

different teacher teach different method of IHM.

My reflex tutor recommends red silk knickers for grounding! Haven't tried it myself, but if you can afford them, why not?

Re shoes, the last ITEC exam I took, (2004), the rules at the exam centre had changed so that all clients had to wear shoes in the salon, to-ing and fro-ing from the bed, etc, for H&S reasons, cross-contamination, fungal infections, etc, and if you wanted to treat them without shoes, say IHM, then you had to provide couch roll on the floor in front of their chair so their bare feet didn't touch the floor.
You might want to check if exams are involved.

LOL Sue, they don't have to be silk - cotton ones will be just fine, also a natural fibre. Must be red though, yes!

Not related to any healing modality, I was given this tip years ago, for days when one needs extra confidence. Maybe the effect is psychological, I don't know, but it seems to work.

Also been told by friends with anecdotal "evidence" - DON'T wear red erm,outer garments, ie visible, because red can make people angry. Blue is better, calming.

Where giving Reiki treatments is concerned, many is the time I've wished clients had worn clean socks/more fragrant trainers, the same goes for prior use of shampoo [&o]

However, as I'm something of an interloper here, not doing IHM, I'll get my coat[sm=dance.gif]

Dear Laura,

The beauty about the pages, you can be an interloper if you have interst and advise and it seems you have both.
Thing with IHM is not so much the trainers - but the shampoo!!!!!! [sm=soapbox.gif] I'll say no more on the subject - else I need to go and wash my hands again!!!!

Maybe incence or some lemon grassoil in a burner under the treatment table????? Leave the trainers outside the door???

Anyway, I'm off to Anne Summers for that silky red sexy number - will tell hubby it is specially for him!!!!

Thank you for your kind words, Jo. Yes, I do dothe occasional bit of sticky-beaking away from my main areas of interest from time to time

Where Reiki is concerned (butof course it could apply with any therapy)my manuals forstudents include guidelines for treating clients, though the personal hygiene bit is something I discuss verbally in a slightly casual "of course, this goes without saying" kind of a way.



Do they have a men's department? I wouldn't know. Everything said here about women'sunderwear of course applies equally to men, for whom red socks or a red tie won't do! So you'd better get him a pair or two while you're at it.

Ok, English is not my first language!!!!!! Actually, maybe I should send hubby to buy it (for ME!) - at least he won't look at the price tag!!! Good mention about the men though........

In Reiki and IHM we covered personal hygiene, problem is the clients. Suppose if somebody books for a IHM you could gently give a hint:
Please make sure the hair is clean,no gel, hairspray etc. as this is not good for the oil (when giving an oil treatment.)

Going to get ready to watch the programme on accupuncture - believe next week is healing - that should be good!!! Can't wait.

A reflexology friend of mine once dragged in off the street a really dirty old tramp, practically had to use surgical instruments to remove his footwear, washed his feet and gave him a free treatment before sending him on his way with a new pair of socks. I'm not sure I could do that [&o]
